Mr.Sunit Roy's Argument was bulls eye. Lets keep the commodities out in discussion. Not all the products make a behavioural change in us.( Only few).Even such proucts require branding to create a category.Since majority of products do not make a behavioural change in us and the differentiation is becoming less and less between products, there comes the branding. Next is the CHOICE.Pls ref the "Paradox of Choices" by Seth Godin. Our Brain is wired to notice quickly only the differences. So any brand which projects the value of the product and at what context the brand is built will surely kick off a procuct to heights. And most likely the perception of the customer will be good. Though the preference req from a product and type of tribes may vary amoung the contries/culture,the above said facts about branding even to less differentiated product is a universal truth.

if we are talking about the general customer then no matter they are from india or outside india most of customer trust on brand and they compromise with brand only when they didnt have enough money to pay for the brand.

Brands meet emotional needs. Products meet rational needs. Almost everyone "rationalises" the products they buy.
Even Sree Krishna Dutta (the Top Argument for "product") admits that the Big Bazaar brand gives people the assurance of the quality of products they are buying. It's also quite obvious that products that fail damage the brand name that they use. Just because a name spends money on advertising does not make it a brand. It just makes it well-known. Not well trusted. Consumers who recommend a product form a particular source to others, makes that product a brand. Consumers also have the power to make brand fail. By bad mouthing it. It's this "accountability" that comes with brands that makes brands more important than "unidentifiable products" for a growing economy like India.

A value proposition in the product what gets customer acceptance when it is launched and continued customer satisfaction is what gets repeat business and that is here value built around the brand gets easy recall and making the customer keep buying the same product.

Basic principle of product amrketing..........create a successful product for it to become a master brand of the future...........chip of the same block. apple to apple you cannot seperate the 2. Yeah you want to support one against the other for debate sake.....ask yourself some prefer to be a leader than a follower some like to be a follower to become a good leader.. So a good product has to go thru a grind to become a Brand The logical question is to ask is What does it take to remain a brand ????????? ANYBODY INTERESTED TO ANSWER THIS ONE Sanjay singhal

A Good Product with Proper Service. Indian buyer is enthusiastic to take challenges & to purchase the new products (e.g. mobile handsets). After all Brands are made by people & recognized by them (in a long run). So what a local brand or national. What matters is Satisfaction!

For the common consumer of india, the quality of the product always matter.. if the customer found a product which can satisfy his/her prime needs , then he/she won't go for the branded product. besides, the price of the brand also does matter. usually, the branded products are of better image & with higher prices..so, the common people sometimes are not able to purchase them. so, as a Basic need, the customer wants a product, not a brand. due to various options , they can think about brand, but not primarily.....

In the most cases (category) brand is important because it has set of values and faith. One who decides to buy a product; first thing have in a mind is brand image and again brand image is not enough to encourage a buyer to buy a particular product. There are external and internal factors (product attributes) which may influence the decision. Today's Indian buyer is educated and smart, knows his needs, likes to know everything before buying. Also, experiential marketing educates him about a product. But the same thing is not applicable for brand conscious people.

IN INDIA THERE ARE SO MUCH OF CONSUMER ARE THERE THAT WHATEVER YOU MAKE IT WILL SELL IN THE MARKET.AND I DO NOT THINK ANYONE MUCH CONCERN ABOUT WHAT BRAND THEY ARE USING BECAUSE MAXIMUM PEOLPLE ARE FROM THE MIDDLE CLASS SOCIETY AND THEIR MAIN CONCERN IS PRODUCT NOT THE BRAND.AND I UNDERSTAND THE ULTIMATE JUSTIFICATION WILL BE AFTER USING THE PRODUCT WHETHER IT IS GOOD OR BAD NOT SEEING JUST THE BRAND NAME.

Brand building itself starts with the product sales however one can also say a product sells because of brand but that is not true in all cases

The ultimate objective is to satisfy the customers and Obviously that comes from the Quality of the Product.Although Quality of Product is much important yet no one can deny that Brand has its own value, its own importance reflecting a Quality Image. At the end, everyone see the Product Quality at the best economical Price(As Indian, sply, are highly Price concious). Hence Prodouct Quality is much imp than Brand in Indian Scenerio.

the consumer today is evolving in terms of product knowledge & market trends. moreover, brands have become diverse wrt their pdt range. the consumer is pretty clear on what he requires. for ex - when buying a mobile handset, they decide whether they want a music phone/ multimedia fucntion phone/ business phones/high resolution camera phone etc. he then goes ahead & discernes across brand offerings in that segment before making a purchase. so evidently, it is the product that stimulates a buying decision.

itobviously has to be the product... if that is brilliant, then through its customer satisfaction, it will automatically become a brand. of course you can not discount other factors like marketing, advertising and other promotions. as support.
