BSNL’s plans to roll out wireless Internet technology, WiMAX to the rural areas. This project would establish 7000 Common Service Centers (CSC) across the country from where the WiMAX facility would be operable from. The project is estimated to cost 1500 crore rupees. Will this improve the broadband penetration in India?

Forget about the unavailable power supply, we should think for those how have the power and p/c sets but are not connected to net ,will definetly gain the knowledge through the efferts of sincier bodies like BSNL. Comparing to BSNL with others BSNL will get more points and the number of citizen who are living in volliges are much more then in cities.

As I said above, the rural sector is so neglected in our country, they do not have basic power and telephone service which are un-interrupted, first let the government provide these two which are basic essentials, then think of both penetration and speed?

The plans are ambitious not just because of the potential value it can offer in rural governance over a long term, but also because it will help India move forward in enabling more citizens make use of Internet access. This will result in more and more internet users in rural areas which will improve the broadband penetration in India.

I dont know why they are hellbent upon making B.S.N.L bankrupt. They have nonexistent network and pathetic service in Kolkata itself what they will provide in rural areas and to how many customers is anybody`s guess.Every other week I have to call up the S.D.E of the local exchange and use swear words otherwise my broadband freezes. The speed and connectivity is pathetic.Do they not have any business sense?WIMAX IN RURAL AREAS!PROVIDED BY BSNL.

Rolling out new technology will help, but how about educating the masses to whom this tech is being offered?

Where basic needs are not being met properly how can tech like WiiMAX help?

Bsnl may establish netorks in large numbers. Unless and until they improve the quality of networks ie very low BER in each link, whether Wimax or WIFI, it will not make much difference and users will be complaing as usual.
