do u tink by giving oscar for slumdog milionaire ... implies that americans always wnt india 's povery to b hilited? i strongly disagree coz that mvie shows the determination a poor boy of a slum area had. i want to noe what the too step users think about dis.

yes its true they always try to show the indian povert.coz apart from slums and poverty there are many good and appreciable things exists in our country but they neither encouraged them nor tried to show them.and apart from slumdog there are other movies which deserve oscar bt they nt even nominated.y so?

It is not only America, but most of the Western World, which sees India as a poor country with full of poverty and snake charmers. Yes, it is true that in recent years (specially since early 90s) things are changing for good. But, I think it will take a while to get rid of this image of India. Unfortunately, we Indians have done very little so far to build up a good image. 

As mentioned by Priya, today's hollywood audience goes to a movie based on India, expecting to see snake charmers and poverty, and the Commercial filmmakers wants to make money, so they will make movies which meets the expectations of their audience. Once, we are able to change the image of our country in the minds of the western world, I am sure the hollywood movies would also get changed accordingly.

I also agree with this point that they just try to show the negative points of us.There are lot more to show about our country but they just pont out our inabilities,problems in our country,poverty and curreption.It's a shame for us.Why we are delighted for winning Oscar.Just think about the pride of our country.If any other(Indian) director would have directed this movie i am sure this movie would not be awarded.

Any foreigner coming to Mumbai see slum dwellers. And if they had to give oscars for Indian poverty lot of Indian art movies qualifies. Yes it was made by "White" and they see India as huge market. Remember 1990s when we had number of Miss Universe /World as MNCs wanted to enter cosmetics market.

it depends, on what their audiance wants to see. today, hollywood audiance wants today,see india's poverty, 2morow it can be clture, spirutuality. get an oscar, Indians will be agog with joy.

we all hv fixed ideas about each other, where is the time and need to be objective.
