I have gone through so many articles where women are tagged as 'Bossy'.. I do not understand because I do not have any such bad experience. But when I read such artivles I feel a gender bias going in where man can say anything to you but woman cannot and if she does she is bossy. A long thread of comments also suggests thigns like they have reached there by luck and do not know how to behave, they are insecure and a lot more.. A simple question : Do you think this is gender bias?

For me it is.. how can anyone say that they have reached there because of luck? Such surveys lead to wrong impressions and wrong conclusions..

I do not welcome gender discrimination . However, if one wants to call a male head as ," BOSS" & "Bossy" for Woman head. I do not find any biasness. But these terms are approved or not. I have no idea.

Yes it is!! i wonder why we keep a regular track on Women behavior & activities in or outside the office. why we don't have such questions when it comes to Male bosses, there r cases where we had similar questions related to their ability and competitiveness??.....because since beginning of the world Male led the professional life and our offices.....women in INDIA just started to take over us in every field of professional life.....so we will take some time to digest this truth...and things will surely come back to normal soon.

Women argue because of insecurity. You may feel they try to boss over you, but infact it is a way of showing they have concern for you and like you.

It's only perception of person but it is one of major drawback for women to lead in the organisation and have to be changed for no gender discrimination.

@Raghavan: Your comment "heir insecurity stems from the fact that women are emotional and not rational in thought" If this was true, no women would have joined the police or army, there would have been no "female terrorists", no women in sports, no women would have played chess or karate or judo or ski diving etc - emotion cannot be used in the above instances, the thought has to be rational (absolutely no second chance and no room for a mistake). This argument that women are emotional and not rational is just an argument of "convenience".

I don't feel its completely based on gender. But it do looks like cuz of the relatively huge size of working male population when compared to females at higher position. Those who undermine the strength and capability of women professionals by calling it as luck will realize by themselves when the population of male and female at higher management are equal. They will realize that luck cant carry one half of the population to higher management which means the other half also came up on luck.

Yes, it is gender bias.Luck favors those who make efforts and try.Surveys are not parameters, but it indicates the male chauvinism.

Why should we doubt on our ability to work? why should we make our self inferior? When we have knowledge, hard work and dedication from which we have reached the heights at work.......if people talk, let them......they don't have better business to do. If they put their mind and soul in working they won't have time to chat.........just ignore and concentrate on your work....they may spend days, months, a year then ...........they will know ,why you are there and why not them.My support is NO, because its time u should know ,what is applicable for u?what is not.

I wonder what is wrong in calling "Bossy", how it can be amounts to gender bias. You cant expect a over protective chamber for you when you are out. You must accept the reality. I am sorry Gargi I dont expect a question from you.

Certainly not, today anyone who gets power even a peon tends to act bossy, so its certainly not a gender bias.

Not really Gargi. Behaviour of such nature is common to both the genders and is situation-dependent!

Some Women tend to be over controlling, over dominating self-appointed queenies... so in that case it is not a bias at all... However we must not generalise it.

My answer is in two parts. First being that the word bossy is an adjective and can be applied to anyone irrespective of their gender. Second i do not agree with an overall view that women have reached their position by luck, no way, they work as hard as anyone else but i agree on one thing that they are insecure. Their insecurity stems from the fact that women are emotional and not rational in thought.
