A carbon tax is an environmental tax on emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. The primary purpose of a carbon tax is to discourage the inefficient use of fossil fuels, which when burnt release carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and contribute to global warming.

yes it should be implemented....

This will help to force Industries to use more cleaner and efficient technologies or treatment or regulation on carbon emission.....eventually on observing the profit the firm will get....they will take there own interest in implementing the new efficient technology...

this will benefit both......no much tax has to be paid and also we will be able to tackle with global warming issue to appreciable level....

Taxes on carbon emissions aren’t necessary. Vehicle efficiency standards and mandates or subsidies for windmills, ethanol, hydrogen, nuclear power will solve the problem. Moreover the Energy taxes won’t change habits — after all, high gas prices haven’t cut usage.

yes it helps as by human nature we fear Penal actions and when there is a tax on excess carbon foot print you try to minimise and look for alternates. india should stride this path.

Yes of coursee carbon tax is essential for all industries which emits CO2 gas as well as other toxic corbn gases. To reduce global wrming and pollutionit is neccessary .

Obviously there are parameters to reduce carbon emission as plantation of trees ,us of gas or biofuels in vehicles and other many more aspects. This will not only save carbon tax but will also provide carbon credit tooo!!!!

Sorry brother....i dont agree with u...In early days we were not knowing about the hazzards of global warming....its was even not known at that time.....but know we have done enough experiments and know which are the causes for global warming....So now after knowing this it becomes our moral duty to fight against.... n y r u just concentrating on  Carbon tax.....there is also a concept of Carbon Trading...

To save Carbon tax....manufacturers will develop more efficient technology and vehicles...thus reducing carbon emissions...so can apply for carbon credits and can genrate revenue against Carbon tax.....what say buddy....???

The rationale for a carbon tax is simple: the levels of CO2 already in the Earth’s atmosphere and being added daily are destabilizing established climate patterns and threatening the ecosystems on which we and other living beings depend.A carbon tax must be the central mechanism for reducing carbon emissions.

We know that only carbon tax won’t stop global climate change by itself — other, synergistic actions are required as well. But without a carbon tax, even the most aggressive regulatory regime and “enlightened” subsidies will fall woefully short of the necessary reductions in carbon burning and emissions. What do you guys?

A carbon tax essentially considers all carbon emissions harmful to the environment, and warranting of equal punishment. A cap-and-trade system only punishes carbon emissions above a certain level, treating only certain kinds of emissions as "bad". A carbon tax, therefore, sends a strong message to polluters that all their emissions are harmful, that they should be phased out, and that they should invest in environmentally-friendly sources of energy.

In india non of the tax implemented to depricate use of product was effective. Take example of tabaco products or liquer etc. Government had lavied hefty taxes on these products but it never helped in reducing consumption of this products.

Better approach would be to propogate idea to all industries and make low carbon immition a matter of pride. Industries in different categories should be awrded publicaly with a proportion of taxces collected from them. That would also promote tax paying habits in industries.

Carbon emitting energy industries emerged long ago, before anyone thought about the environmental impact of this industry. Is is wrong to suddenly consider all energy production that involves carbon emissions a social "bad", after decades of thinking to the contrary. Modern energy producers should not be punished for their participation in an industry whose emergence pre-dates concerns of global warming.
