Can Facebook become bigger in 5yrs than Google is today??

This was the question asked in an article in a popular tech blog called techcrunch lately...and was a good article, but the reason that was given why it will overtake was a substantial one according to me,

Remember three years ago, when Microsoft paid a quarter-billion dollars for 1.6% of Facebook and the exclusive right to run banner ads across Facebook.com? To tell the truth, how many of you thought that was a killer business decision? I can’t say I did at the time. But as that deal is about to expire in 2011, Facebook’s status as a revenue juggernaut is rarely questioned any more.  So, what do you think people, can Facebook become higher in 5yrs than Google is today??

I think it can be, and that has to do with the amazing run that facebook is having with its ever increasing no. of users with its current 500 million users, very soon it will also reach the billion mark and With the data from both companies, one can easily say that Facebook will be bigger in five years than Google is right now, barring some drastic action or accident. Futhermore, Facebook will grow without needing to cut into Google’s core business of text ads, which are still 99% of Google’s profits.  Because brands are less interested in targeting than they are in broadcasting to demographically correct eyeballs, and Facebook has become the perfect platform for that.

I think they are totally different from each other. FB may become bigger. But Google is always popular on internet for its service, performance and functionality. People still want to go with Google.

Facebook can never be bigger than Google. Facebook has limits on social networking site but google does not stands only for search engine, it is more region to expand

fb is also gathering database of individuals, so it might be a better people search engine,google is on service line with various lab project, and somewhere replacing microsoft, while fb is is providing service as entertainment,and i thinks we pay more on entertainment than on chorous, so fb might lead..

Amrita I am of the opinion that face book will develop very fast but goggle will also grow so it may still be a distant dream for face book to overtake goggle overall particularly their search engine.

Google and facebook both are different things. we cant compare google with facebook. even we can say google is ancestor of facebook. facebook cant reach at this level in 5 years.!!!

Orkut also came with similar concept but now i see orkut is not more popular but still Google was popular,still popular and am damn sure it will be popular.Noone can stop it.

Both are different according their jobs.... facebook is a social networking site with the limitation for any user..... but google is a most likely and best and popular on internet.....

FB nowhere standing.We can see both has its own value in the market and there is no matching in the dimension as google is providing services for very broad and large prospects where FB is still far behind.After 5 years if FB pick up its value then google will not stay back. One thing is for a sure Teenagers more focused on FB.but google every age group.

Also, Google already have faster processing and enhanced searching techniquest which FB can not comepete.

As net connectivity and inquisitiveness levels of more and more netizens increases , Google will become more searches and almnost a knowledge tool.

The ever increasing lot of students , teachers and professionals , all visit google for searches , information, connecting and solutions.

Facebook shall remain the domain of connectivity and chat , for those (officially) above 18 years of age. The numbers will grow exponentially , but a search device cannot be beaten by a connectivity tool , unless google becomes irrelevant due to some other better , faster , easily directing compendium.

Facebook can't compete with Google as because it has larger segment in search engine sector. Google has high level of advertising campaign base than Facebook. We can not compare each other because both are different to each other. Apart from that Google has versatile high end tools which Facebook lacks. In the next 5 years Google must have grown up to a big giant in searching industry with robust advertising features too.

Facebook cannot compete with google in long run. google has thousands of facebook in it if you have eyes to look and mind to search for it.
