As everybody is talking about green these days, so what about the homes that are built, each n every person has his or her  own taste and according to it they build their homes. Some people want a simple and small  house which is less energy efficient and by this contributing to the environment by being eco-friendly. And others want a luxurious or a mansion type which is just less energy efficient. So my Question is can green homes be luxurious!!!! This is a debatable topic people, so do share your thoughts on this interesting matter..........

According to me yes green homes can be luxurious, just because it uses huge space and more construction materials it is not necessary that it uses more energy than other homes, you can cut down on electric lights by giving ample space for natural light to come in to the house, and you can recycle the construction waste that has been created and effectively minimize the cost and energy for construction materials. Different people have different tastes......

No

Not necessarily.

U can refer Larry bakers . Those houses were constructed using locally available materials and natural resources in the cheap and best way. We can also construct the houses with energy efficient way, and using the locally available materials. There are several companies trying out in this way.

I support you, Venkataraman,

A green home can be Small or Big but still it can be energy efficient, providing ample daylight, continual natural air circulation, connectivity to the external nature, less water usage, et al to the occupants.

Definetely they are luxurious. In western countries these concepts were implemented long back itself whereas in India its arising now only. It will take some time for people to feel advantages of this concepts.

GREEN HOMES give you the maximum daylight, air, less polluted, dirt, easy to clean.

Mainly they save your pocket outflow in terms of energy consumption (electricity) and water. What else more luxury than this we need?

Green building need not be luxurious. Infact it should be more economic compared to conventional housing materials and techniques.

i agree with venkatesh green homes can't be luxurious cuz green homes are meant to be  energy efficient and to be this the homes must be of average size and not a bungalow and say that it is green n all, if it is a luxurious one then obviously there will be more energy consumption while building it and then afterwards...

No i don't agree with devarajan, luxury homes or larger homes take more resources and materials to build, while a smaller home, in addition to using less energy over its useful life, usually has less impact during construction and creates less construction waste. So when you are going green it can't be luxurious..
