India has launched a new “green” court this week to toughen up the nation’s environmental laws. The National Green Tribunal, as it’s called, will be composed of 20 judiciary and environmental expert members who will hear cases regarding environmental protection and rights around the country, and have the power to dispense compensation from environmental negligence as they see fit. But, can it get the job done in the first place??

Hey... LET IT START FIRST. To reach a destination, we have to take the First Step... Right ?

Lets not Debate about its' Outcome before its' Start.

We can at least be OPTIMISTIC about things, instead of Debating.

A green court, particularly for a vast, growing nation with a catastrophic industrial disaster like Bhopal on its books, sounds like a good idea, but I have doubts over it whether it will deliver any good for that matter.

And that’s because India has created similar bodies before — the National Environment Tribunal in 1995, established to handle cases arising from accidents during the handling of hazardous materials, and the National Environment Appellate Authority (NEAA) in 1997. “We have not seen these two active, and I have not seen any diagnostic study of why they failed in the first place.  The effect of the bodies’ failures happens because court rulings on sweeping environmental issues like sustainable development and the precautionary principle are often too broad to be properly managed at the ground level. So, I don't think it will work for that matter.

I am optimistic about this initiative and hope to get a lot of improvement in the area of environmental pollution. It is necessary be very serious about this project and we all must join in this area to help. The involvement of mass will help contain the corruption also. We all have to go forward in this direction to make it a success, if we are really interested to save us and our future generations

It all should start in the minds of people rather than by some courts or laws or judiciary. How many laws or judicial systems are functioning exactly in India.

Working towards a greener life and greener world would be and should be every educated persons choice, and it cannot be implemented by force or some law. By corceon one may acheive name but the real change should be from within.

I agree with Mr Naushad but the job is done only few percent. The job will be done when we will follow nature's rule by heart.

Our country cant be at cross roads with the International environmental reforms and no doubt has to be implemented at any cost.  Before supporting this move it is our responsibility to ensure that radical reforms in using renewable energy are tailored or our needs and aspirations.  In the past we have endorsed that we were so dependent on fossil fuel.  Even though day by day we apprehend that fossil fuel will not last for a long time we still have not taken serious measure to curtail the consumption.  With automobiles slated for phenomenal growth in the ensuing economic reforms, the infrastructure also is being pruned.  Inspite of growing resentment and uproar by environmental protectionists trees will have to be chopped.  Yesterday it was reported, that for widening of an important arterial link in Bangalore 256 well grown trees are being chopped.  In the process of implementation of Metro rail many trees were sacrificed.  All this amounts to our ill preparedness to the execution of environment protection needs.
