As every one knows that micro finance is the provision of financial services to low-income clients, including consumers and the self-employed, who traditionally lack access to banking and related services, mainly to the poor in rural ares. Many schemes are there in India to provide various micro finance facilities to the poor. Micro credit, micro insurance facilities are also available.

Can these facilities helps to eradicate poverty in India? Share your opinions...

Yes .. at least  tosome extent. Working for eradication of poverty from the country should be in a "wholeistic-approach" and Micro-finance may be one of them. Big players in Banking and Finance in this country of massive population have neglected this segment of people who are now being financed by 'micro-finance' organisations, the new age financers. M/finance has become talk of the country and Toostep members may not be an exception.

All may not be well in Microfinance as have been narated like these 1) Interest rate of such loan is camufladged which is actually high 2) only short term small amount  loan is provided 3) Quick recovery is done thus no long-life asset may be created out of this loan 4) generally women-borrowers are targeted (!) keeping the menfolk away 5) field-staff are low paid making them a victim of 'disguised-employment' 6) safetyand security of the base level staff are neglected 7) make the sysytem look-like Banking but actually not - keeping it away from the main-stream survelience by Govt/RBI/IBA .. etc etc.

Despite all the abve, Microfinance is here to stay and flurish. There is a massive demand for finance in the sector which is looked after by these institutions. Yes .. if properly regulated and guided, M/f may play havoc to eradicate POVERTY. To eradicate poverty as a whole other measures are equally needed which may be dicussed elsewhere.

when  we talk about microfinance for rural populus the thing need to be taken into consideration is purpose .one have first of all teach them the ways to deploy the amount borrowed in a potential productive investment.the major task attached to it is literacy .but this can be achieved through awareness campiagns,.still, one need to be altruistic beyond usual to help them pull out of debt trap(this fact cannot be ignored dat most of farmers are already bearing the burden of debts).so ,more or less it can just mitigate the their trouble but isn't the ultimate solution to it.

Why not.In fact micro finance's sole target is to uplift weaker section. However it needs to work honestly. There need to be accountability & sincerety. Unforunately in India, many micro finance companies are working cunningly for self benifit only diluting the original goal.

Eradication of poverty in India is just next to impossible. However any financial scheme when executed properly would improve the conditions of rural people. As far as the micro finance companies are concerned their work is more bussiness oriented rather than uplifting the financial condition of poor people.I think rural people need more awarness and informations in order to be benefited by such companies.Poor financial condition is a part of the poverty. To eradicate poverty there are other factors which needs to be worked upon.

Micro finance in perspective does give an opportunity for rural employment to a greater extent since it funds a group of people who are otherwise not eligible to secure loans from banks. But this alone cannot ensure that poverty can be reduced - more than funding as priya had note it requires a lot of education in terms of creating successful business models. If only the government and the micro finance institutions work together and promote it in a much more coordinated way we can see results in the long term

In my opinion microfinance in rural areas by itself cannot eradicate poverty. Credit can be a trigger for growth, but it requires a context of all-round development to function. This must be promoted by the government, the private sector or by the NGOs in really remote regions. Credit will not trigger growth where there is poor governance and insecurity.
