The next 4 years is set to be the golden period for Internet growth the world over and as expected th access to internet via mobile is set to be the driving force for the growth. As of this year there are 450 million mobile Internet users worldwide but this number is expected to touch 1 billion by the end of 2013. The key driving factors of this would be affordability of smartphones and nose diving data charges.
Currently the most popular online activities of mobile internet as same as those of PC Internet users i.e. using search engines, reading news and sports information, downloading music and videos, and sending/receiving email and instant messages. But over the next four years these activities are set to change to making online purchases, participating in online communities, and creating blogs. Also from a B2B perspective accessing online business applications and corporate email systems will grow substantially.
Mobiles may not replace PCs completely due to other computing parameters. However, within 5 years of time SmartPhones would replace or shift small & short "utilities" of internet from PCs to SmartPhones.
When I say small & short "utilities" I mean less processor intensive/display intensive and more emphasis on applications/utilities meant for mobility of financial/economic value applications would be 100% desired to be hosted on Telecom network.
Maybe in some applications. But to replace the PC is virtually impossible. There is the question of data storage which will be extremely limited where mobiles are concerned. Also, for presentations you require the big screen.
Any secured transaction like money, I would be comfortable using the PC and not the mobile. Thanks for the referral Radha :)

Of course, not! There are so many disorders that are related to brain are reported frequently due to very strong micro-wave. There will be a general advisory from the WHO and other medical bodies on usage of mobiles. No wonder, the Health Ministry will force the Mobile Companies to put up a Statutory Warning on all the mobile devices! PCs will stay. By

Yes smart mobile phone/PDA will take place of PCs soon. There are no issue about storage or computing or even printing too. Few days back there were question of how to print data but HP came up with Cloud Printer which will enable you to print from mobile phone/PDA or pc or any device with internet connection.
As for as storage is concern, we do not need it. Tomorrows application will be deployed on cloud computing. So, we only needed is a browser and internet connection.
may be or may not be b'coz still mobile have some limitations which Pc doesn't have when mobile cross that particular then only mobile can fail PCs but it would take 3-4 yr for implement these things
this can also possible in today time also because in our BLACK BERRY SET on which we can easily check our mails then by the use of mails only we can easily access our PCs

yes there will be a lot of change that means the Technology or trend get lot of change in upcoming years at now also the people will use mobile PC technolgy but the growth will be definetly grow in upcoming years.
Not exactly mobile phones that we see today but netbooks running Google chrome OS will :)
Those netbooks with computational features ( >1 to 1.5 gh) connected to the cloud always with all the same apps crucial to a mobile (calling, contacts sms etc...) and rich in their UI , these will certainly blow off people from traditional PC's towards mobile devices .
THis may seem to be exgaration form some but seriously , what is it that we normally carry with us ?? definatly not our PC no matter how great it is ,so doesn't it make sense to improve upon the underlying the technology of a mobile device ??
Yes.Absolutely 90% the mobiles will be replaced PC for Internet. There is a lot of advantages using Internet in mobile. It is very convenient & compact one.I am using mobile Internet for nearly 2years .For example,I am using for bank Transactions, reservation of Train ticket, checking PNR status, checking all Mails(even we can reply),Online Movie ticket reservation, online chatting,Stock exchange status, online world news etc.,Now the Nokia has given highest memory capacity about 32 Gb which is half of the memory capacity of Normal PC.The main advantage is we can use even in crowded bus while travelling.Just imagine, how nice it will be.Can we use Laptops like that?.The answer is CAN'T.Only few peoples know how to use the Internet in mobiles .But onething 100% its damn sure i.e.,In future everyone will go for buying mobile especially for Internet when compare to PC.
ya this wil be happen shortly or i can say it is happining in metros today as well the 3g or 4g mobile make it easy to use computer feature on mobile very easily so at all point one may say tht it is useless to copare futuremobile with normle computr

Its nothing like mobiles will replace PC's its like the medium which user chooses to browse internet will have a gradual shift from PC's to Smart phones, with tariff wars already making everything so cheap, even internet rates on mobile phones will also be really rock bottom and with 3G coming in it and with more and more smartphones entering the market we can see the gradual change, and today there are applications like twitter, facebook and other sites which supports these smartphones with which people are tweeting these days, so yes mobiles can replace PC's as medium for internet.
yes, I completely agree that mobiles will replace PC. name one PC compnay that does not have a smartphone product category. Name any one internet -releated function that cannot be done over the mobile. from banking to tweeting internet is all accessible from a mobile device.
The only way how a mobile will not replace a PC is high-performance computing.

It seems that the next 4 years could bring a gold rush for online businesses in general. At twice the current Internet penetration India could very well be close to 100 million Internet users by 2010 assuming we are about 50 million right now. Also with the reducing demand for broadband Internet, it is becoming tough to access Internet. So people are opting for mobile Interneting. So, it can very easy be predicted that Mobile will takeover the PC world in Internet in the near future.
May be coming time it will easy to run some applications on Mobile rather than PC But It can not take plcae of PC By

Both will continue to co-exist. Mobile phones and tablets with their small screen size and inferior input methods and not yet poised to replace PCs and laptop computers.

Ankesh, according to me both mobiles and pc's are growing in same rate. At any time mobiles cannot replace pc's . In mobiles only few applications can be used and it is also not fast compared to pc's. It can be used for checking mails and other application. It cannot be used for surfing and other purpose as we do in pc's. The first drawback is the size, it is very difficult to use it for long time. So it can be use for internet and not for replacing pc's.
Thanks :)

We agree that the wireless devices(mobile) are more helpful. But it have certain limitations while we consider the speed. They are handy but, practically if we consider then, mobile having lot of limitation over computer.
It is not possible to completely replace PC with mobile although a lot of applications can be run from mobile. memory and data capacity is also a limitation. Screen sizes in laptops have shrinked and correspondingly screen sizes in mobiles have grown up to show more visual display but it is not possible to say right now that mobiles will replace PC's.

Though our developing country is improving in many parts, but still many states under that are suffering from dearth of food, literacy of many states are very low.In that scenario we should go ahead with keeping all these in our mind.According to me,pcs wont be replaced by mob for internet.Because except few % of population, people are taking mob as medium of talking only. But where we will think of a mob which can replace pc,which will be of handsome price also.Apart from that,I would like to add one more point that, which facilities we can get in pc,that can not be in mob.Because both have seperate purpose to be in their own forum.

I dont think mobile phones with i-net fecility will replace the PC's, mobile phones with i-net may be useful for certain occations like travelling . But PC has got its own advantage in handling when compared to mobile phone. If you provide me both with same access speed and ask me which you prefer, then immidiately I will say, give me PC. While working with PC, even if I do not were glasses, dosen't matter, that's not the case when I use mobile phone. IT has got similar such advantages and there fore I don't think mobile phones will replace PC.

Compare the user profile of 500 million mobile subscribers. How many home PCs are there? How many of them are aware of the power of Internet? Usage of PCs and Mobiles - Yes mobiles are mainly used for voice and text. Access of Internet on mobile is for the people who are on the move. And of these more than 90% use for quick glance and not beyond that. Then they may access the internet/mails through their laptops/PCs
