A year back back my support would hv gone in favour of 'NO". but after seeing the latest development from Nokia and coming out with good ones like N900 they can sustain the leadership. its not only about voice and data now, its Unified communication -world is moving towards which highly application oriented. When I do comparison - Android, New Mobile windows and From Nokia now Linux (maemo5) all are light OS and open ended for development. Having build the strong brand and now moving on the right track Nokia can sustain the leadership.

A lot of players (domestic and international) are on the heels of Nokia and trying to usurp the market share from them. A local brand - Micromax is doing quite well and has managed to gain market share over a period of time. However, in the recent top brands survey by the Times Group, Nokia was among the major brands that was listed by the consumer. Additionally, at the international level, Nokia is not doing so well and it has gone in for a non-Finnish senior management person for the first time. Despite all these shortcomings, Nokia is a very powerful brand that has a top of the mind awareness (TOMA) among the customers. It is more a case of lethargy and complacency after being at the top for a long time. The increase in the market share of the other players (domestic and international) has shaken Nokia and they are taking a lot of steps to regain the market share and one of the important steps being the implementation of the mobile payment system which will help it to regain its lost market share. Thus, it is prudent to state that Nokia should be able to sustain its leadership in voice and data over a period of time......

Nokia has an excellent advantage of excellent brand image which will be encashed to leverage new buyers of replacements or upgradations. This should help them to take the lead provided they offer the right mix.

NO! A mobile user is getting more wiser each passing day. Android based phones making waves. Users love to try varieties. Many options/apps r readily available, at less/no cost. It wont be possible for nokia without multiple M&A with new entrants.

Bharti is going to launch its Beetle phones and make their entrance in to the cellular sector. Beetle has a very good history in India and I guess can sustain very good competition. And today Nokia has launched its dual sim phones which I feel is slower than the other players in that segment. beetle is supposedly coming with a triple sim (GSM+GSM+CDMA) i believe which can give pretty good competition to Nokia in the future.
