yes, so far as nuclear energy is considered, its very clean as far as generation is considered. but disposing the waste product is more dangerous than than our convectional power plants. The Chernobly accidents recall how fatal they can be when theres any malfunction.

so far as efficency is considered the nuclear plants are having higher efficency than any other generating units. n offcourse no emissions also

70% of world's pollution/green house gases produced by automibile industry. only 30% of green hourse are produced by industry. in that only 15-18% Greenhouse gases are produece by thermal power plants. if our country wants to reduce greenhouse gases it has to install thousands of reactors to meet out energy requirements. then what about the effluents. the effleunts will posses more danger when compare to greenhouse gases. so nuclear energy is not a solution/remedy to the greeen house gases. Our country has the potential to produce 80000MW of Hydel power yet to be used. Nepal has the potential 100000MW. we can get the most of the power by installing hydel power project in colabaration with Nepa.

Even i to agree with Deep on this that Nuclear energy can save the planet as with fossil fuel which we are using at the moment will be gone from few decades down the line, so one should look for alternative and According to me Nuclear power is the next thing, so yes Nuclear power can save the planet.

The question all governments and voters need to ask themselves is: Should we use a technology which produces wastes we cannot contain or control, or ought we use one which wastes are in comparison easy to isolate? Of course nuclear waste is deadly, there's no question about that. However, the possibilities of both fission and fusion are far more extensive than those of fossil fuels. The efficiency of all nuclear plants can be enhanced to a great extent, both increasing energy production and decreasing waste production and costs of building additional reactors and plants.

Dumping nuclear fuel is main problem and it's like a junk for our earth. It destroy life where it is dumped and its emission have lot of harmful radiation which is harmful for human being.

With the vast resources of natural energy sources available in India, not tapping them is crime against the country. The government should put more resources towardsunconvetional energy sources like Wind power, Hydropower, Power of waves & solar energy to meet the demands.

This requires strong willed Leadership, which unfortunately India lacks. Still with the help of major investment through the private sector & subsidised inputs from govt. can see it through.

The nuclear energy though widely used makes us dependent on others for Uranium, which india does not have in sufficient quantities. This makes imposible know the economics for the same. Also a nuclear plant posses huge threat to the enviornment.

yes the words given by Mr. KISHOR is quite sufficient for the debate that installing nuclear power plant is not only the solution to over come the polluton. the green houses gases which is produced by auto vehicles is quite lagre and it could not compensate by the nuclear plants , yes it does but in front of vehicles or automobile pollutants it is negligible.

Mr.Mckirdy i completely agree to your view. Definitely nuclear power is the dangerous form of energy to utilize instead we can utilize the most abundant and cheapest form of energy i.e.solar energy. It will definitely solve the problem as this form of energy will continue to exist till the life exists and also it can be afforded by all the people. So definitely we should think of making use of solar energy.

what would you say?

Nuclear power is the most dangerous form of power. Thomas Edison once said " I put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don't have to wait till oil and coal run out." We need to get off of coal and fuel to power our present and future. OPEC is well aware of oil shortages. Now for the truth. Nuclear is not a endless supply of energy. The fuel will not be available for very much longer. This is a real shortage over anything else on this earth. Then there is a bigger problem with nuclear waste. We should stop looking backwards and take charge now. I know I am telling you this and I quoted Thomas Edison from the past. He was one the smartest men in the world. We did not listen then and for some reason we are not listening now. "Think" it makes perfect sense. We need to stop being followers and lead the way. This is not just one countries problem it is the world's worst problem. If we do not act now it will be too late. Oil and coal are not a end-less supply of energy. The sun is! I don't know why we talk and we do not take action. Nobody can afford wind energy. It breaks and the wind's energy is a tinny fraction of energy. The sun's energy is the most reliable and powerful energy on this earth.

Nuclear power is just a short term stragery for a long term problem. By promoting nuclear power at this point, takes the focus of the larger issues. We need to explore and invest more into sustainable energy, which is more environment friendly and cost effective.

It is reported by  Scientific Americanthat waste from burnt coal in conventional thermal power plants can be more radioactive than the waste from a nuclear plant. The URL for this information is given here.

http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=coal-ash-is-more-radioactive-than-nuclear-waste

This subject needs more investigation before conclusions can be drawn.

While atomic reactors themselves are not major emitters of greenhouse gases, the nuclear fuel chain produces significant greenhouse emissions. Besides reactor operation, the chain includes uranium mining, milling, processing, enrichment, fuel fabrication, and long-term radioactive waste storage, all of which are essential components of nuclear power. Again Nuclear power, which can only produce electricity, does not address emissions from automobiles and other components of the transportation sector, probably the largest source of carbon emissions.
