Cloud computing is just a concept - still in early stages. Till the time we have a network where even the slowest speed is in gigabytes - yes Gigabytes, thats a long way to reach a level where primary hardware and software resource can be shared remotely

Cloud Computing is the latest term for SaaS (Software as a Service) which was started as early as 1998.

Most people who use computers do so mainly for office and productivity purposes. They use a word processor, a spreadsheet program, and a browser (to browse the Net, check their e-mail, shop online, socialize, and play games). Usually, the word processor and the spreadsheet program are MS Word and MS Excel.

Such programs can be hosted at a remote location i.e. at an organization which is dedicated to such a service. Such organizations also take care of anti-virus, maintenance, backups, etc. They even host specialized software such as SAP, OracleCRM, etc.

Though there are security considerations, organizations providing cloud computing (i.e. SaaS) can secure personal data or corporate data better than an individual or an organization can manage on their own.

Such a service lowers costs for customers for installation/implementation, usage, upgrades, maintenance, and support.

The service can be accessed via a browser from any device that can run a browser e.g. a netbook or a smartphone. This is even more possible due to the recently released HTML 5 standard.

Of course, some sort of local storage is necessary to boot the customer's device and so yes a small hard disk will be required for even a browser OS such as Chrome OS and also for the various device drivers (graphics, printers, etc).

As acctual use of hardisk is storage but the cloud based os is providing storage facility then the requirement of hardisk or any othersecondary storage device reduces.

To start with, anything that is on internet no matter what is not secure and there is no way to have faster means of access to any data over network compared to data on local machine.

And by the time we have internet speed in gigabytes I am sure our local harddisk will be able to read data even faster ;) .

This case is like "it is easy to say than to do". Cloud computing promises a lot, but the actual realization has lot of constraints or atleast pre-requisites. You would need basic setup for all the operations till a long time to come.

Google Chromium is the OS which is supporting the CLoud Computing.

But Google Chromium OS is only for the net users who uses internet for surfing.

Think about Oracle DB, Exchange Server, etc - Cant be installed on Cloud Solutions.
