A punishment can act as boomerang to the parents. Proper counselling and guidance are the two keys to make a children perfect. They are 21st century's children and they become mature enough at a very young age. Hence every truth must be revealed to them..

i quite agree with swapna das, punishment is not the best way to discipline a child it result to stubbonness and arrogance in them and it also result to repeating what the child is being punish for. Rather than punishing a child deprive the child from what he like doing

Sounds like philosophical but not practical. Most of the successful personalities in the world have been taught and moulded in a strict fashion. The new western influence on Indian soil have been making fuss of the corporal punishment unnecessarily. The stircter the punishment, more will be the person's chances of not repeating it. That is my own experience in the life. Or else the child may turn into criminal at a later stage. The corporal punishment may not necessarily be given by concern authorities at home or school by arrogance but with firmness and boldness with an aim to make a child aware of the wrongdoings. The softer approach in todays modern world always has a negative impact as per my opinion. Sorry to differ with you dear but I felt myself comfortable to have expressed myself.

A child can be molded only with corporal punishment, because a child learns behavioral modification not with advice and counseling but with corporal punishment that is the nature's methodology. The child needs to get personal training, which means the child has to be molded according to the eclectic method. This gives the right to the teacher or trainers and parents to mold the child's behavior in accordance with the existing social customs and traditions. If a teacher is not allowed to discipline the child, who will take up that responsibility to discipline the child. If there is no corporal punishment, which is the fear factor in the child, the students have to mold their character out of their will. This will bring a chaotic society and law violating children and society.

Generation passess through various time-period. What was successful a few years back, may not yield the same to-day. Because , the children & the environment are different. There are various way of teaching & learning process. What we had, in the initial period, viz. Gurukul is non-existant now. It was Guru-discipline orientation , then comes Disciple-guru centered . Like this , learning process went over remarkable change. Now-a days, educationalist advocates play-way of teaching -learning or the way the student wish to learn, so that his intension & interest, can be studied and , accordingly, can be modified to the possible extent. So, if we go by latest trend in education, corporal punishment can not improve one's child, rather ,will spoil him.

I am not in favour of any punishment Ms.Swapna. The children should be made to understand on what they have committed as mistakes. The children can be explained about the negative impacts created from their acts/doings. In case the mistakes are very big than the normal or ordinary one, their parents should be informed immediately by the teachers of the schools. Sometimes, punishing on certain children will lead to undesirable consequences.

I am in agreement with Swapna on the subject completely. Since coporal or any other punishment may lead to sucide among introvert student which we have heard in case of a Kolkata School and for the extrovert the punishment can chang the life for the worse i.e. the student/s may become criminal at a latter stage of life. Hence i think it is the responsibility of the teaching staff to make the student understand their fault so that the understanding gets engraved in inner mind and such mistakes are never commited by the student.

ARROGANCE CREATS ARROGANCE. VIOLENCE LEADS TO MORE VIOLENCE - Why do we recruit inhuman brutes as teachers in India? Do we Indians really need to remain primitive beasts with psychological trait of abusing and killing weaker successors of our society? I don't accept any logic to supporting any relevance of the Spartan rule anywhere in the modern world and India as part of the world community should not aim at building a warrior nation with the help of a violent education system; but we should create a nation based on love and fraternity. Only people with healthy mind should be recruited as teachers and should be provided proper training on phychologogy and human beviour before they start working. Teachers and parents supporting corporal punishment should be legally defined as criminals/ hoodlums only for the sake of building a healthier nation in future.
