I supports both. Both are real facts, not a debate. Until unless indians feel themselves about the imortance of these issues or till we leave our CHALTA HAI ATTITUDE, both arguements will remain same as it is for long. As I asked in a similar debate how many of us or insist our family members to carry some bags while going for some vegetables. Thanks Sachin .....

It is not a herculean task. Only thing is will and some common sense is required. Some tough measures are also to be taken. Hard decisions have to be made. Those who say that it can be made bio degradable I ask them a few questions i.e. Why plastic was invented? Why countries who use plastic more than us have not so far invented such a material which is bio degradable? And if they have why they are making such hue and cry to stop using plastic? Why they don't just introduce the material in the market? Actually the answer to this question is they also know that it is not degradable it is only recyclable. Where as the cloth bag is degradable if it is made out of jute or cotton or any natural fibre. It will not create any problem even if it is littered. You can not expect people to stop littering bags. They will be littered. We have to accept the reality.

Just stop using them. Do not accept them if offered at shops. Take your own recyclable bags (yes even plastic bags) and use them when you go shopping. Recycling the plastic bags you have is the first step in reducing their use. The next step is to replace them with reusable cloth or eco friendly bags. Eliminate the use of the plastic bags, you eliminate the need for them. If there is no need, they will gradually disappear. No amount of wishful thinking will make it so unless we start with the first step.

Nip it in the Bud. Stop the manufacture of Raw Materials. Just because the Ambanis and their kind want to make billions the world must not suffer. Those in the power must stop taking bribes from manufacturers. Government must not allow the manufacture of Raw Materials. No raw material no plastic bags / products. Impose heavy import duty on some plastic products (say 5000% or more) like PVC bags. No one will use a PVC bag if it is Rs. 50 per bag. Stop recycling of plastic too. Also, impose very heavy fine. Fine such as seizure of the entire assets of all who manufacture raw materials used for making plastic products.

A best solution for this problem is just "SAY NO TO PLASTIC BAGS".

Yes we can but the government has to cooperate to solve this issue. Just cancel the licence of the manufactures and ask them to come up with some recyclable materials.....

to state a fact we cannot do without plastic bags, however if we make sure we use a grade of plastic which degrades fast naturally, with nominal effects on the environment it is better

YES THEY ARE... AN INTEGRAL PART OF OUR LIVES ! However hard we try... it gets harder to remove Plastic Bags from our Lives. My personal experience in Pune, where they executed a drive against Plastic. Kirana Shops started selling Cloth Bags ( i ended up buying 6, but always managed to forget carrying them )... This lasted for a while & Now ? PLASTIC BAGS ARE BACK. Its better to develop the Technology to DESTROY PLASTIC or STOP LITTERING, which is the Real reason for Trouble... Specially NOW, in Monsoon. Happy Debating Friends !
