I really thank the media for bringing the incidents of honour killing into the eyes of the world.

Honour killings -- where men and women are killed by their kin or members of their caste -- are also rampant in the western part of Uttar Pradesh. "This violence is committed in the name of saving the "honour" of the community, caste or family," says a leading Indian women's group, the All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) in a resolution passed in the Indian capital, New Delhi.

So, can we stop this disgraceful activity in India??

From the bottom of my heart I really feel sorry for those innocent lives that were lost to the hands of their mean minded parents & relatives. In no books, religion & no holy books it is written that killing people who are in love will justify the cause.

People feel that by doing so they are protecting their pride, honour, etc. ....In my opinion this is rubbish; Pride at the cost of others life ...not happening

Such people should be given serious punishments like death sentence & the Govt. should make sure that such incidents are stopped immediately. Police forces should be very active & take immediate remedial actions against the concerned persons.

i may be too straight in saying bt what i feel that there are many bad things which can be stopped (including honour killing of course)and many good things which can be started but for that we have to jump in to actions rather just discussions. afterall these all requires great collective nationwide campaign.

There is a lot of mental change is required. Till the human rights  are not properly  made aware to public at large, it will be in such way, but  in the third millennium  such is the case  then there actually exists aliens who are  blocking all the system of law enforcement  and  plough  down the  Indian society down to earth.

Dear Himanshu,

Appreciate your concerns it is unfortunate for such things to happen. Any civilized society must condemn such actions.

The reasons for failure are on several fronts. For one we are at best trying to become international citizens without becoming Indian first. Result we thoroughly lack understanding of "why" behind such issues and those with power have neither inclination nor time to understand leave aside scout for solutions.

Opposing same Gotra marriages had a valid reasoning and in that sense our ancestors were much better scientifically aware compared to practices we are trying to ape. In this sense what Khap is advocating may have a valid sense yet neither most have the necessary understanding nor has this been passed to youngsters as education or learning nor well reasoned out in law. Resultantly EGO and BRUTE force replaces subject understanding and reason.

We can definitely stop such crimes with concerted efforts and will power of the citizens police and the politicians. This sis not happening cos the politicians support the caste factor which are their vote banks, and do not allow the police to deal with such crimes effectively. Young-turk MP.s who were supposed to speak out the minds of the Youth of India, are toeing the line of the Caste Panchayaths, as they feel emasculated without "them". This has to change. There should be a wider discussion and Opinion formation, and the youth should come out in the open to condemn such practices and such wily politicians

Everybody has a right to lead a life that he or she feel is correct for him or her. The society or soicla customs can not impose things on this right. We as a democrtic country should not allow such killing in the name of certailn customs or belief. The Government should ensure that such killing should be stopped.

The govt should improve the policing in the villages and the cases whenever reported in the courts should be dealt with swiftly and strongly.

I also think that there is a lack of nationalistic feeling and excessive caste/religion feeling among the villages where these incidents are taking place. Education and other initiatives must be undertaken to stem this.

hi all, even though we are in very advanced in almost all fields today and gone beyond limits in somany cases and causes still, one generation is rigid on traditions which is difficult to eradicate.instead of asking honour killing is correct or incorrect,i think there are some better ways of doing things with few compromises which can prevent these type of barbaric acts.

actually we have no honour to the live of person or individuality of person so we can't stop it. it is bound to happen till we don't giveup the our attitude of compelling the people to follow only your ideas without any freedom to choose or thin or try.

Himanshu.....I appreciate you that you brought out such a meaningful & valid discussion. I personally feel that if we work together then we can uproot this system of killing innocents from the society. But again & again by hearing & seeing the barbaric activities of people against other people makes me feel that we can never be free of this kind of activities.

Moreover, the Govt. & other people around are acting like dumb helpless raped women;  neither the Govt. is taking any severe action nor the other people in the society. In this selfish world nobody is ready to help each other. Only when problem comes into their house or on their head they start reacting.

Thus, it is very difficult to change the barbaric society the way it is now.....Take my words only rules like 'eye for an eye' will work for these types of people who cant' see other  people loving each other & being happy.
