Wikipedia is really good search engine, i agree that the use of wikipedia miiiight be decrease but still it will survive. Wikipedia is giving all information start from born to end, all type of histroy, depth meaning etc. Right now it may not giving ad, but in future it may be give, why we think negative. Because many old company were not giving an ad but now they have started to give ad like that....

The growth of wikipedia in last few years show that without Ads its getting enough financial resources to run and expand their operations. I dont see change in next 10 years in that scenario. However Advts on Internet are not as irritating to the viewer as on TVs unless they cover whole screen or keep on playing and one has to skip it to reach to the desired content.

As long as man requires some authenticated and detailed information on any issue Wikipedia do survive, because it provides useful and detailed information on any matter. It surely survives all odds.

I certainly hope so. It is one of the most useful sites on the net and its value to the average searcher is phenomenal. Some how it must be maintained free of corruption from the advertising bug.

Yes it will survive because there is voluntary involvement of people around the globe just as linux software which is thriving and replacing the windows which is free, money is not everything.

Have contributed my very small bits to Bangalore Wikipedia, and from where I see it- Wikipedia has got a long journey ahead of it! The world today is run by those corporates who thrive on the slogan: "Free transfer/ sharing of knowledge, no or less/specific advertisement." Examples are Google, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, toostep.... :) have I left out something! I know, I can't list them all! And Wikipedia is leading them all! In a nutshell, if Wikipedia can't make it in the next ten years, then one of the following would have happened: 1) There would be a huge paradigm shift in the marketing strategies of all the leading companies in the world we see today- they would have invented a better way of selling that is better than "giving it for free!" 2) None of the companies would have made it to the future and we would enter Stone age. As the Wikipedia's mission statement goes: "The mission of the Wikimedia Foundation is to empower and engage people around the world to collect and develop educational content under a free license or in the public domain, and to disseminate it effectively and globally." Very nice debate! Would want this to continue and get all the attention of all the veterans present here at Toostep and elsewhere! Thanks again @Amrita!

Sure will survive and perhaps longer. We sure need to see to that by spending some time to contribute useful material there - as we all seem to have time to spend here! and am sure we do know something we can share, or even edit something someone has contributed. Lets not just talk and poll here and stop.

In a recent survey it was found that around 50% of Americans access wikipedia. This kind of popularity is not that easy to die. Nevertheless, I believe when it's data storage and network activities increase further it will be little difficult to manage only with donations. For the coming 3 to 4 years it will definitely remain ad free but after that it will have to bank on advertisements to support its activities.
