I agree with Sunil Monga. Journalism is really a challenging & thrilling profile I have ever seen. Because I am also from Media field & worked as journalist with Indian Express Newspapers. But now a days Media especially electronic media is losing its news value and working B2B. & because of this viewers have started cursing media like anything. But viewers on the other side don't understand how challenging it is to come out with an exclusive story & present it in a professional manner in which readers can understand it. Print journalism haven't yet lost its news value except few of the newspapers.

The question is not about whether a job as a Journalist is challenging or easy because of the work conditions, every other professional field has similar challenges be it in Politics, Law, Medical or Teaching... the question is about the responsibility which comes along with a career in Journalism. For a common men/women, words written by a journalist have a lot of credibility. The reporting of an event is thought to be non-biased where a reporter's job should merely be of a medium from which a news passes from the place or a person to the masses without any additional views expressed. The bias can also come, even if a Journalist is being honest enough of not expressing his/her own views, because of the selection of news. If for the sake of profit (read advertisements), the selection of news revolves around three C's --- Cinema, Cricket, Crime --- or if an article (even the EDITORIAL) is written under pressure from powerful and the wealthy, the PRESS losses it's soul. JOURNALISM is a MISSION to create a change in the society by bringing UNBIASED TRUTH in the public domain. The PRESS should work as a WATCHDOG to make sure that EXECUTIVE, LEGISLATURE AND JUDICIARY work according to the spirit of the CONSTITUTION of a country. PRESS should be a platform through which the voices of poor and neglected reaches to those who are in power, so that the changes in policies and priorities can be suggested. These are the real challenges which makes the job of a Journalist the most challenging and gives PRESS it's status as the FOURTH PILLAR in a DEMOCRACY.....

My Comment "SUN is moving arround earth" is an ironic statement. The media in India is really not rational--and that is why I tell if you stay in left side you win--if you stay in right side--you win. its win win always for journalists.LOL well--in that was I mean it is easy journalism--Yellow journalism. But it is challenging to accept the editor's choice to go against truth. Cheers.

This is India and not America-- Journalism is very tough if it is about work time and outdoor activities. But if you ask me about news--Oh common--in India people will take chemical wasteif you give it free. For example--If I say Earth is mooving arround Sun today--people will read If I say Sun started moving arround Earth--People will read. If you say Manmohan is GOD--People will read If you say Manmohan is devil--People will read Then what will decide what is truth? MONEY honey--not to you--to the big shots sitting above u--so take that challenge to accept what they say. :)

Mr.Vinay i agree that the job of a journalist is definitely challenging because of the work hours associated with it and the kind of work they do is sometimes very risky when they bring the news to people from places which are not fully safe for them.

Right, Journalism is very challenging role. To bring out the correct & orignal news to viewers. The journalist is responsibile for both,,,its channel as well as public. Truth shoud be there.
But these days, channels are just looking for earning money, rather then providing corrcet info.

Media people also have to deal with the frustation of wannabe writers who don't have the talent or the guts to get in. The wannabes are constantly nitpicking and nagging the media people, pushing for coverage of certain subjects regardless of the channel/publication's niche, and wanting more high-end reporting immaterial of the price of the publication or the finances of the channel.

Dear Alapati, It is not about the passion to work or hard work, these traits are necessary for all employees. Here we are talking about challenges faced by the journalist like danger of life when they report against terrorist or politicians or criminals, working at odd hours, etc.. In this sense I feel thta the journalist do have a tough job to do....
They really do a great job in bringing all the happenings to us.

i beg to differ with you gm, any profession do has merits and demerits and if journalism is treated as a profession it is similar to any others which has difficulties of its own type.it may look easy to talk / gather news but effort behind it is unseen.any journalist should be alert all the time and the pity is nobody knows from where the peril emerges.

Mr. Himanshu i fully agree with you.The life of a journalist is definitely challenging because of all the things that you have mentioned, moreover sometimes in order to reveal the truth they even put their lives in danger. Now-a-days so many terrorist attacks are happening and if the general mass get to see the footages of that place at that very moment then that is only because of the brave journalists who go there and give you updates of each and every thing happening out there.
So bravo for all the journalists and hope you will keep up the good work.

I would say that the job of the journalist is one amongst the most difficult jobs. The long odd hours they have to put in to get the news. One of my friend used to work overnights as and when the situation demanded. The job of the journalist is really demanding.

I am really concerned about the stress the journalist have to handle. Long hours of travelling, no proper time to work and even after so much of hard work, whatever news you publish you cannot make everyone happy. There will be people who will hate you because of some particular news and some of them might be your friends. You really need to be of tough skin to become a journalist.

Career of a journalist is not as hard as we think. It is interesting and exciting. Anybody who likes to meet with new people, ask them question, gather data about an incident can very easily set his career in journalism...

I feel it is a easy job because a person who is interested in just going out and reaching people, knowing about what's happening around him then he might not face any difficulty, it would be his passion. It is just about perception, no job can be as easy as you just don't have to worry and work will go on. Everyone has to put some effort in getting their work done.
