praise does certainly motivates us to some extent but at the end of the day we are all working to provide for ourselves and our family, so any sort of extra cash motivates us more than any amount of praise (are the bosses hearing)

Nikhil What a miilion dollar question.....:) In the present scenario,I would go for cash.If your definition of praise includes promotion, then i would go for praise.See memory is short lived. If a guy has an option of increment on promotion and praise,i believe most of the people will go for the former.I have seen a trend in MNC's.To fit the bell curve, what they do is they give some people higher bonuses, some increment and good grades to some of them.So i would go for promotion, then increment and then finally cash..... :)

See you are working in an organisation for cash and not praise only. So it is cash reward or cash incentive which motivates employees better. Had it been praise only than you would not have been working. You would better be doing social service. If you get cash reward the praise comes along with it. Everybody comes to know of it very fast. Everybody reasons that he has got the cash reward because management recognises his or her work. So in the back of the mind of everybody praise is there. Yes If you give praise also than the motivation is the most. So if cash reward is attached to praise in the form of a citation or a small gift. Than the motivation is the highest.

cash is more important..incentives and bonuses are more motivating....Praise is also a motivator. you can feel proud praise without any incentive or cash is not worth much...But you can adjust, if you are paid more and not praised for your work

ITS VERY MUCH SURE THAT TODAYS WAORLD IS TOTALLY PRACTICAL N WITHOUT CASH JUST THE PRAISE IS USELESS. JUST PRAISE EVEN CAN'T FULFILL OUR BASIC NEED.....SO BOTH R REQUIRED WHEREAS..CASH IS BIT SUPERIOR .......

Being a salesman ay heart - CASH makes me go gaga!! :)) But in the company hierarchy and the different factions everyone has a different view. The lower starta of people like the errand boys, peons etc should necessarily get CASH as a reward! As you move above the line the most unnoticed department is the administration & HR. I have never seen them being rewarded. They should be PRAISED in front of the company employees and maybe a cash incentive at the end of each successful year!! To make a successful year, year after year the Sales team needs to be motivated and goaded to perform better through CASH incentives only. Marketing guys are generally paid a better CTC so an incentive at the end of the year in an envelope would work wonders!! Production and IT employees should be should be incentivised on the basis of target production achieved. IT particularly cannot be really measured so appraisals and increments every six months should keep them soft enough to take care of the hardware :)) All in all - CASH form of praise works WONDERS all the time!! Thanks for the referral Ramanatha!

Cash motivate me better to have a value based living, but it cannot be denied that i need praise too. I give more waitage to price rather than praise because we can measure cash but we cannot measure praise, this we can only feel. Praise is a pschychological feeling or it can be described as inner feeling which cannot exactly be measured in terms of cash. Here we measure the worth of human being in terms of value which you can experience at your convinience, when ever you need. Praise can be experienced at the convinience of others only. Threfore personally i choose cash is better.

Agree with Mr.Sudhir.According to me cash is the biggest motivation that one can get,and as sudhir said cash generally bring praise with it because if you are being paid higher than before then it's for the work you are doing and your work is being appreciated with which obviously there is praise......For me the biggest reward or motivation can only be in monetization form.

Cash as a tool of appreciation of one's work doesn't exist independently. Cash accompanies praise. However, just praise doesn't do the trick all the time. It's always praise accompanied by cash that works (or some other reward in kind).
A little cash didn't hurt anyone right (even if it leaves you a little disappointed that the money that was given wasn't enuff) :)

So according to me its the cash which motivates better, From my experience, I feel that freshers and middle level employees/staffs are mostly motivated by CASH than anything else...

Respected Madam, to some extent I agree, but practically majority of the people are motivated by cash only. As per your example for a peon, go-on praising him without giving increment, bones .. then he himself won’t listen our praises. Current situation is like that Cash is equal to Praise only (Cash = Praise).

Praise is critical for ones own self esteem but in this technology\ procees world ones own output comes out very clear. Everyone knows who has done the best. So i go with CASH. As cash is also a form of recognition and it makes more sense to reward the employee with cash as the org has also made more money! So sharing of wealth first then praise or no praise i will work hard to get more wealth. People with strong self esteem i suspect do not yearn for praise.

AS far as CASH or Praise--> Successful CEOs given the example--They chosen Cash and taken Praise as addition
I can not understand the following things:
Under what impression a company will prefer giving certificate in stead of Cash apprisal!!!
Will a person who got good cash as apprisal, will miss PRAISE?
What is the motive---Are we inventing Nuclear Technology kinda stuff that we will accept PRAISE and give an emotional OSCAR speach?

Oh ... I am in a delema ... !! What a question .. though .. !! Is it possibe that : - -- being on this side, vote for that side (Cash ),
- -- vote for both side ( Praise and cash ?)
- -- observe which side is strong ?
- -- ask my " home-bound Finance Manager " ?
But, again : cash is very much 'materialistic', may vanish any moment, may be cheated out by a fraudstar ( net frauds ? ), smells a bit 'middle-class' type. So, finally : I vote for : Praise, social recognation and self-esteem. Disclaimer : not intended to hurt anybody.

I believe PRAISE in more valued in most of the cases than the CASH,because along with the praise we use to hear our feedback and the level of our skills, money never matters if we maintain the relation with that person the work may come again but if we receive the money n did'nt do the work properly then there is nothing wrong we can also here there some bad words about us,which may setback our career

When we conduct lectures or seminars for students we feel a sense of satisfaction when students fill feedback forms and come to us with their queries. We feel that we have made an impact on them and they trust us in some way, This feeling makes us work harder and improve more on our presentations. So praise motivates us mentally and we work really hard toward our goals and cash follows.

Cash is necessary for one's basic needs in life so without cash reward one dont want to work. But after basic need other needs comes into picture i.e. need for recognition and social belongingness which cash can't fulfill. so cash reward is necessary for basic needs but after that only praise can motivate a person to perform better.

Cash and praise both are essential in different fields of life.Cash obviously needed for our survival and well being of our family, but its material and finishes soon. While praise or rewards always live with us,make our profile of life strong ,it always live with us as a proof of our gradual success .Ultimately we can try for more better opportunities to earn more cash alongwith more success. Praise keep us positive, motivated and energetic throughout life while cash is flexible always and always make us more and more hungry.W cant feel serene with cash anytime in our life.

i will not be diplomatic here rather i will say cash has the attraction but still praise motivates you to work if there is no cash also. again giving hike in s lary or promotion is the form of prasing only isn't it.. so praising is the only thing which motivates you not cash.

I do agree with Anirban!!!!!
Money is appreciated in a worldly way! Recognition is better in a spiritual way. Money is finite. Recognition is infinite!
Businesses flourish and prosper when employees are happy. Acknowledging an employees' excellence in the form of recognition - a celebration - is honorable and honoring. Showing appreciation permeates accomplishment. It makes everyone feel good. The memory of such an event is everlasting.

Hi,
If we talk about the motivational factor then I would say Praise is the biggest one.
Money is important for our financial development but to motivate our inner strength we need praise.
Take an example of a peon....he just earns a couple of thousand rupees........but still manages to live and support his family. While in work if you talk to him nicely he'll respond you in the same manner and if you praise him for any work done, next time he will do that work with more enthusiasm and dedication........but if you only increase his salary and stop praising him you'll not see any enthusiasm. he will just work like a machine.
And this applies to all. This is a basic human nature. We all need a praises in one form or other. No matter what we are earning.
So, according to me one should get praised we you really want to motivate him.
Regards,

As par me Praise.
Because cash is for short term & it will motivate you uptill it is in your pocket. But Award or certificate is for life time & it can not be achieved by money.
Praise is a honour which motivate you every time whenever you look on it or somebody talk about it.

The answer to this typically depends on what the scenario would be. Assuming that you have performed better in some assignment given by any organization, praise would fit well than cash awards. However, the best fit would be that such praises of recognition should reflect in ones overall appraisal or incentives for better motivation and higher degree of performance. This way, performance can be guaranteed even in the long run.

i would say just "In the arena of human life the honors and rewards fall to those who show their good qualities in action" cash will come and go ... but the praise which u ill get as per certificate ill be hanged onto ur wall and when their comes a time when a person is not able to give his best that day these certificates show u the mirror that u were being praise of wat r doing and yes u can do it again .... every person have diff opinoin on this but i feel like this ...

Well..we work for earning money. As in present scenario world economy and same are home economy is based on money. If you are not earaning so you are just wondering about life and that you cant do. So, on the way of earning money if we are getting praised for same work, so this is like a plesure.
