India’s Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has announced the new regulations, launching a system of feed-in tariffs for renewable energy, including both wind and solar energy. The action plan calls for five percent of electricity generation in India to be from renewable sources by 2010 and to increase one percent per year for the next ten years. Will this boost the renewable energy usage in the country?

I think this will increase the production and usuage of renewable energy in our country. The Feed in Tariffs have been successfully used in Germany and France and China has also introduced this. The introduction of Feed in Tariffs will see more investors in the renewable energy sector. This will also strengthens India’s position in the run up to the climate change negotiations.

CERC cant do alone respective state electricity regulatories also should work then only Renewables can take a boost. As in Karnataka ,very few MWs (approx 45 mw) of Wind energy is comissioned and cant take a boost because of KERC norms and Investers are migrating to other states and countries

Definitely yes, government sucks at doing everything so they should rather hand off the responsibility to public.

Surely,it would be beneficial for our country as it will change the mindset about renewables(particularly Solar)and also it will provide financial incentive to the people. It will surely result in impetus in forthcoming years...

It is already published and the PPA from NTPC Vidyut Vypar Nigam Ltd (NVVN). The tariff too is attractive giving us a payback period of around Seven years.

Yes it will is a good initiative. To meet the future demands we have to go with renewables such as solar & wind. day to day the usage of electricity has been increasing.

I agree. This will really increase the production as well as more genuine parties would start investing who really wants to be in the business of renewable energy based power generation. Till time, government subsidies, tax benefits were  the objectives but henceforth as the Power purchase price is also elevated {in Gujrat earlier PPA price for wind was 3.37 Rs & now 4.25/-Rs} more investor will come out but this will make the competition to take potential sites TOUGH, Instead we should get the Faulty Areas OFF the GRID so that a huge commercial losses can be eliminated & this can happen in case of establishment of Power Co-Operatives in all Indian Villages. Aerogenerators are available which can produce power at very low wind speed of 0.8 m/s to 9 m/s & they are cheap. If we establish wind power co-operatives then the HUGE Faulty Area of GRID from where maximum commercial loss occurs will be eliminated. We should not forget the we have almost more than 27% T & D Losses which is very high. And Energy Saved is Energy Generated. This can yield extra ordinary results for country like INDIA.

This law will definitely increase the use of renewable energy in India. This law will make the user to use the Green energy more and more. This process is already successful in USA and it will definitely be a success in India as well...

Right U R.If the tariff is favorable to investors for renewable energy source they will expand their wings.

Yes this definitely increases the usage of renewable energy in our country. This system has first introduced in America and is benefiting a lot.Gujarat government has already started to work on this,so that other states can also act on this. The state government policy should be framed accordingly to see the investors should invest in renewable energy sources so that we can see the result of that.

This will increase the availability of energy. However the will for  regulation implemention from the government authorities has to made accountable on awarding their annual increaments and promotions. unless this is taken for action all the regulations will lead for failure.

Of course this will boost the renewable energy usage in the country. This law in increase use of green energy usage in India and will increase the production and usage of renewable energy in our country. This will also strengthens India’s position in the run up to the climate change negotiations.

Sure, this regulation will ensure that this green energy growth is included in our plan. At the same time benefits should be there for the organisation who exceed the norms and it should be substantive. This way it is done in other countries also.

Well, with due respect I would like to add few things which I understand to watch on...That's to alleviate the interest of end use in renewable power & this can be made by proper syndication of end user, power distribution entity, power transmission entity and power generation company. Here, the enforcement may result in increment of renewable power generation but the end user will get the power at the same price instead we have make arrangement so that the end user choose to use GREEN POWER to get space for his products in Developed Countries due to its low carbon footprint. We should make a group in which all are participating and deciding their role prudently which gives overall long term benefit. For example, if a ceramic company is partner in establishing a wind power project then it can get power at lower prices after deducting transmission and distribution charges, even they can have thier share of earnings from Carbon Credits also and i believe this could have been very cheap in the long run.

I completely agree with you. But the reason is different. Most of the investors use conventional wind turbines [horizontal axis] but I advocate for vertical axis aerogenerators which are very efficient & operates at low wind speeds like 0.8 m/s to 9 m/s [at 9 m/s, it gives 100% Load]. I believe, If Investors use these Aerogenerators for Grid Connected Power Generation, their Production will increase and they will yield high profits even at lower power purchase agreement prices. I have studied the data with efficiency curves of operational aerogenerators and conventional wind turbines & there is a HUGE Production GAP, Conventional Wind Turbines are not very efficient.
