The HR system in most of the companies take a safer route of hiring someone who has already made a name or who is been endorsed by someone or who has come out of a big B school. Now this has repeated over a period of years and here is where we are. B-Schools are no longer for learning. B-School has become just a certification for commanding better pay.

It really depends. Sometimes certifications can help you to get a job, get a job interview or more networking opportunities but getting & keeping the job is on you. A certification really needs to be combined with real world experience. Certifications can be great leverage for achieving career goals and/ or career advancement. A certification can get you in the door but to have continued success in some careers all depends on the individuals performance. Even with a certification you still have to show and prove that you can do the work. Obtaining a certification is a good way to demonstrate your competence, it could increase your value as a professional & make you a preferred job candidate. Different certifications are meant to show that someone is a professional in one area or several areas. When an employer evaluates a new candidate or considers the competencies of their existing staff, many employers recognize the value of a certification or college degree. Certifications are designed to provide the recognition that you need to help you excel in your career and provide employers with validation of your skills. Certifications help to improve your job search, provide you with up-to-date, relevant skills that can help lead to a more fulfilling career. To help you to succeed in today's competitive job market, certifications help you to standout from others. Whether you are looking for new opportunities or advancing in your current position, you need to build and demonstrate your expertise and skills through certifications. Sometimes certifications help to prove that you have the knowledge & the skills. Many times it all depends on the company or organization that’s doing the certifying. Some certifications are top quality and some aren’t. Overall certifications do help you to get the job. It just all depends on how an individual handles the job that helps them keep the job. ~Get Business Consulting Services: The Clerical Business Solutions Company provides business consulting services specializing in strategic planning & business management.

Good debate - yes, certificates do help in getting better job whereas these are the most easily available and visible proof for for one's candicate's qualification. Problem starts with the application phase. Certificates can be obtained in India in different ways - and the person who has earned the certificate in a easier way, i.e. not learnt anything while studying is never comfortable with the job and always tries to find out easier way to gain success in job sector too.

Certification is better option to get job and as per what I think that one should be selected on the basis of knowledge which comes to him/her by certification/degree. But should promote certification instead of degree courses because these courses are waste of time and I say it because if there are two person , one who certified and have specialisation in his field with one year period of real time experience while on the other hand , second one has degree in 3-4 years that costs much higher and still he know little about his field and have no real time experience. so certifications are much better but we should take care that one should get certified with full exposure to his field. So If one year person can do better than 3-4 years in his field than Job should be given to that person who have certification instead of others.

In today's life a certification is the important. Even if you know everything and you don't have the certification then prefrance is being given to less deserving, less knowledgeable but more qualified person. And this is not only with Software, this is true with in any profession.

I think people arguing against certifications have misunderstood the meaning of certification and a certificate - a certificate is a document which certifies any number of things , e.g. from just participation in a one-week first-aid course , conducted in-house within your company , to passing the St. Johns 6-month course in First Aid , which means you are now equipped to handle a prescribed list of emergencies. Participation in a 15-day swimming course can get you a certificate ; this is not the same as getting a life-guard certification. A certification is a document which certifies that you attempted a particular test , and attained a certain level in it e.g. the certification of MCSD is given by Microsoft only if you obtain the requisite grade in the Software Developer examination. It is highly unlikely that you can get an MCSD certification without having a certain proficiency level in software development. The same holds true for a networking certification from Cisco. A certificate can be obtained from any institution ; a certification usually means a certificate from some recognized institution e.g. even an institute like Jetking can give you a certificate in Software Development , but you would not call that a certification.

Absolutely. At least in the IT arena , certifications are directly from the product vendors e.g. Microsoft , Cisco , Oracle ,... Such certifications are an assurance of your knowledge of these companies' products , and your proficiency in their application. A certification like PMP has also gained a lot of respect in the PM field. You can rest assured that such vendor certifications are not mere certificates. They are your passport to a better job.

I feel that if have interest in a subject or a thing even then you can give he noticed as you cannot hide your talent we will come in picture sooner or later. So without a Certificate you can be hired for a good post.

May be..but certifications will certainly help u get introduced to a company and give u a chance to appear for an interview for a specific designation but that may not help u get a better job. Practical experience is very much important besides these certificates. This is because there is huge gap / difference between class room training and practical world. getting a certificate is an added benefit. Thats all.

Certifications are an "independent third party" appraisal of your theoretical knowledge at that point in time. It has nothing to do with your practical abilities nor your ability to deliver, manage teams and network. all these are also equally or more important to get the job done. a clear example is that of the administrators, IAS, top management guys that are really good. their knowledge on the subject may not be high. but they can pickup, collate information and come up with a good working scheme.

I don't agree. Because both(certificate & internal ability) are necessary to get a good job. If a person who has not ability to handle the situation but have proper certification then he can't able to get good job. Another example : if a person having degree or certificate in marketing or sales but don't able to handle the client face to face then he can't continue his job just on the basis of his certification. It means if a person has guts to do a particular thing or able to understand the situation & good implemented his theoretical knowledge in practical work then he get good job easily & go on the way to success. SO BOTH ARE REQUIRED>....

Although I'm supporting the down thumb, yet I'll say yes certifications do matter to get a better job to some extent. But it doesn't count in the percentage of placed ones (the pre-job certified ones count much less in placements), if not accompanied by a paid internship or earlier exposure to some similar domain jobs.

No, For freshers it certificates and marks may be benchmark, but once you get into any industry what really counts is our performance and the contribution of an employee towards company's growth.

Certifications are not based on live projects, you acquire knowledge by real hand on experience, certification though helpful only plays a minimal role in your projects. Here your attitude, passion & patience play a major role and this is what I've seen with my 7 years of IT experience.

I dont think Only Cerificates RECOGNISE YOUR PERSONALITY.In todays context it is your passion and skills helps you to stand out amongst others.Jobs You may get on your certificates but to add value to that job,is in your hand not in a piece of paper"CERTIFICATES"

No not exactly, nowadays people are doing many different certification programs and they don't have any knowledge about the subject. They do it for name sake, since that position needs certificate in a specified field. So instead of wasting money in such courses try to learn it for some expert from you office only. If your company wants people for specific requirement they will train themselves and not depend on the certificates provided by the third person.....
