As long as a person is earning cash in return for a performance, it is labor. Performance does not necessarily involve physical exertion to be called labor. So when a child does it, it is simply child labor. Lawfully, it is so according to my understanding! We will stop seeing children into these when Child Labour Laws are put into practice unless the remuneration is treated as gift / award.

An artist comes under the perviwe of the definition of the term 'workman'. By using the child in a tele serial would voilate the law. so for as reality shows are concerned, the child will get the prize money so it will not be called as a 'wage' and the participation cannot be termed as rendering service for remuneration and further more reality show is competition and there can't be a relationship of employer and the workman.

According to me Children are too small to do such jobs. No doubt, they may be talented, maybe that some children might do their work proudly. And children are missing out on education and time to play. A child who spends even part of the day working instead of going to school remains uneducated, it attracts child labour.
As per the law, employing a child under the age of 14 is a crime.

I am sure that there are systems in place to deal with kids being in movies. I am quite sure the movie makers are aware of the laws. This is not happening only in India , it is a global thing. This was going on long before I was born and will be there long after I am gone...so I am not bothered.

You are talking about talents, which should always be encouraged to come forward, if children are possesed with acting abilities, is something like a child doing good in academics, then how come child labor laws are not implemented on educational institutes on the studies of children, Ofcourse the limits shall always be considered as children are really exhibiting their talent or they just toys of making money for others...

I think by working on TV serials they have not quitted their studies. They are coming on TV to just to showcase their TALENT or may be its their hobby/passion. It is also a type of profession i believe.

Actually childrens working in a TV serials or rality shows comes under two types: Ex: one who works/participates on Screen and second who works back of the screen.
The one who works/participates on Screen may not be consider as child labour. Because for example: if a child encouraged in learning sports, singing, dancing, etc., these are very good to the child future. Accordingly, child works in the TV serial or reality shows that too on the screen also comes under above examples and it is good to their future. As such, we may not consider under the child labour. PRESENT EXAMPLE: Slam Dog Millionaire Childrens.
But whereas, the child/children those who works back of the screen definitely comes under child labour. Because they are not treated properly, they are ignored, harshly behaved with them, paying low wages, etc.

I just to need to know one thing...not from the legality or technical point of view...but seer practical and realistic point of view. TV is very intimate medium...if used constructively, it can be worked wonders in shaping the brains and career of kids. Anyway, scores tv channels catering to kids are being beamed all around the world...kids need the peculiar kind of entertainmnet that explore their world of imgination. I repeat the question, if kids are banned to participate in kids' show what will happen? TV otherwise also is most of the time a social, family oriented medium. If kids r not there, how can u possibly portray characters of the family? How do u show life on tv or films without kids? simple question

As per law yes they should not work if they are below 14, but then you need kids in the movie and films right, without them one can't tell the story, but then reality shows is what is causing problem, with children missing on school and education and they are participating in these shows, this may affect their future,,
