Chinese products are priced way lower than most Indian products. Indian products pass through a more stringent quality test compared to their Chinese equivalents, and thus lose out (to them) on sheer price difference? Should the global community wake up and make it mandatory for Chinese products to meet a unified comprehensive standard or should we join their bandwagon and go the Chinese way?

Chinese products definately dont have the quality control that most Indian products offer.  That would probably expalin why the Indian products cost more.  But how many of us do bother about quality frankly...Price is King! So if I get a child's toy for Rs 20/- why would I invest Rs.150/- for an Indian one or >Rs 400 for an imported one, when the shelf life of the toy in the hands of my 3 and a half year old will be 1 day!

I don't know whether to take on Deepa or Manisha's side, but still ill give you my views on this one, No Chinese products are not eating up our share in the world market, as everyone knows how harmful are chinese products are, where recently chinese toys were banned for containing harmful chemicals in them, so there is a gloom on the part of chinese product these days, so they will not cause problems for indian products in any way........till now even Indians were buying the chinese stuff, but not anymore, as the whole world knows the quality of these products are very low and people don't want to associate with such products anymore.....

Sir,when we look at the Global Market YES they are as Indian Exports in early 90's was hit by Chinese Exports of Bicycle parts, later this virus turned the exports of Apparels as a loosing proposition and many Exporters had to close shop others were compelled to move to lower cost economies as Bangladesh, this can be seen in the drop of Indian Exports the largest exportable product of India fumbled for the last few years Ministry of Commerce had to prop it with various with drawn incentives .Nationally with inexpensive Electrical Products they had started dumping products it was during my tenure at IEEMA that we presented strongly our case of the POWER INDUSTRY to the Government then countervailing duties were bought in to put a stop but it still continues and has changed track to Telecom as Cells etc

Even in India , we prefer Chinese products to our own.... so where's the question of Chinese eating our share. We are giving it to them on platter

I agree with Anil here.  Chinese are most certainly not eating any of our share. After all the accidental swallowing of toy parts by kids and lead n other poisonus stuff added to the paint.  The world community has taken serious steps to ensure that substandard chinese goods are kept at bay.  I disagree with Manisha that 'Price is king'...well at what cost. Certainly not at the cost of losing a dear one.  Infact the mention that the toy lasts for a day is only for the chinese products.  I have a Fischer Price toy which has stood all the abuse metted by me and later my daughter and has lasted us a good 30yrs....need I say more.
