I believe that Google is pursuing a strategy of differentiated OpenSource development for Android and ChromiumOS so that they can merge them later (as Sergei Brin has already indicated). If you look at Chromium's capabilities, they have carefully avoided the capability to store files locally; while the same is given to Android. Once Android is enhanced to handle bigger screensizes (upto 10") they may even merge both and give users an option to have cloud computing and storage for private and confidential data, in the same machine. Many will find this a useful combination during an era when travel advisories are given to executives for travel laptops with no data stored.

Excelent point MR Vinod . the compatibility between android and chrome OS will open up endless possibilities and even the one you just mentioned .

I am however a bit skecptical about the merger of android and chrome OS .There are lots of technical issues like the firmware installed and compatibility between them , secondly chrome OS ( browser OS ) is ultimately not an App which may run smoothly on android ,but whatever it may be , My belief gets strengthened more because all the components right from the device drivers to the apps are totally open source !! who knows Google might surprise all by showcasing the compatibility between the two .

That i believe would be the ultimate  form of software /hardware innovation ever shown and will make " Open  " the king of the software/ digital  world . We may forget what a mobile or a laptop or a  netbook is , all that will matter is some  unique business models  and a  rich connected experience with never felt before !!!

I agree Google is crazy , crazy enough to change the world for the better :) by giving products which  are simply super fast and rich in functions :)

Chrome OS builds on Linus Torvald's popular open source foundation to create a lightweight, Web-oriented desktop environment.This linux foundation for chrome would backfire them and there are lot of issues with its open source technology. Google is here taking the easy route by making it open source. So certainly Chrome OS will fade in days to come.
