The urban development ministry wants to make it mandatory for cities to adopt energy-efficient practices in construction, solid-waste management, water conservation and public transport. The ministry has already prescribed fuel-efficiency standards as well as technical parameters for public transportation as part of a bus finance scheme it announced early this year. What you think about this idea? Will it be a viable option?

going by the need such an endeavour is a  need rather than a matter of choice .we can no longer afford to have dilly-dally approach on implementing clean technology.sooner or later tangible steps have to be taken so why not now.by the way ,cost of conventional resource will soar in future considering the heavy consumption and stagnant supply  of the available resources.it is rather apt time for our cities to adopt green projects .

As long as "we" people and the "Industrial" people follow rules and practices laid out to reduce pollution it is possible to control pollution. But as such there is a threat from the behavior and commitment of Indians towards environment.

First of all, the initiatives by Govt. in this direction are welcome. Regarding viability, I think it is quiet possible....Pls note consumer spending has improved a lot over the last one decade, and both Govt and public have to bear some expenses to improve the environment for future generations. It may be seem to be little difficult to all the stakeholders initially, but it is possible to find out solutions for implementing the same as we go along.

I don't think this idea will be viable as the energy efficient practices may some times lead to increase in cost. And before implementing the norms the government should find out the technical specifications as well as see whether adopting the standards would be financially viable for homeowners.
