Hi This is Sachin from Pune. I think both are important. If we know theoretically then it can be applied practically. So Class room study with more live projects or case studies work practically are better options for the management students.

Classroom study is must for understanding the concepts and overall curiculum in a span of study, i would like to suggest instead of internship in final year of study it should start in first year and continue till course completion, this will help to gel with the corporate working structure and benefit the corporate to a larger extent as the trainee can be absorbed in the company itself. Its a long term benefit for both as an employee and employer.

CLASSROOM STUDY with EXPOSURE TO MARKET/INDUSTRY yes. This exposure/internship forms part of the regular curriculum for most MBA universities. This again is part of teh exposure-interaction that is mandated for a manager to develop and grow.

This is applicable not only for professionals, for undergraduate level students also should have more practical time table. Now a days undergraduates not able to cope up the Industry competition. There should be a class room learning also but it should be limited to actual requirement.

Thanks Mr Manoj for referral,a very good and timely debate. The sub and substance of the argument by Mr Manoj Chaturvedi is very pertinent "grow with the industry".The management student should keep in mind the master key as suggested.

Rightly said Manoj, Actually this is applicable for all fields, and it is the responsibility of all the professionals who are in job to support this idea which is some what not done because of insecurity.....our culture and teaching have always told teached us to share the knowledge in order to enhance it...but due to a unseen fear of insecurity keeps the in job professionals to refrain the young budding graduates from having early exposure.....i have very limited words to express my views..but this debate has a huge potential to go on..... thanks for the referral.

I am of opinion that Education needs revamping in our country. This is amply true with the comments made by critics. More colleges, universities, Institutes have started functioning but the standard of education is still in insipid stage. The bright ones do go outsourcing information which should be legitimately available in the college through the competent Teacher. Most of them are looking for greener pastures abroad, If it had not been for the blooming IT Sector and IIMs Indians would have had a tough time getting employed. When I did my engineering in one of the best colleges in Bangalore all my practicals were on age old vintage steam turbines and wood working lathes. After obtaining my degree it was difficult to go through an interview at HMT, Bangalore since they started the company in collaboration with famous Oerlikon company of Switzerland. The technology of machines needed by industries had hardly figured during my education in Engineering. In another interview with the same company, the interviewer threw a dot pen in front of me and asked me about the procedure to manufacture. Hardly did I know anything about plastic injection moulding. Today the internet is the most trusted source where PDF versions of most of the Technical books written by scholars, experts are available. During my final year BE exam, I had no internet and also access to the library to borrow books. Buying them was not affordable. A friend of mine who belongs to Scheduled caste obliged me with 6 text books from the library to be lent and exchanged whenever necessary. Anything learnt in a class room would not be as noteworthy as an experience on the field. Not just Management, but other professional courses like, Law,Teaching, Commerce, Engineering, etc should also introduce compulsory internship for a specific period in respective fields.

Hello, Arjun! I agree with u.Classroom study is more important than the practically working in corporates before taking the whole knowledge of the subject. But I am not saying that practical training is not at all required. Bcoz classroom is the place where we can impart , learn, share knowledge, experience which we get through teachers and classmates. And workplace or corporates is the place where we will use our knowledge and we will learn thru our own experience. So first give prioriety to learn in classrooms . Corporate life to aanewali hi hai
