Through this debate.......I want to attract your attention towards the problem of litters everywhere in our country........and the same time to contribute in meaningful way.......I think this is one of the big problem which can be solved by the small individual efforts.........let us lead by example.........If we can carry a small rubbish bin in our car and try to avoid throwing anything(wrappers/cans/cig./pouches/left out food/papers etc.) out of the moving/parked cars..........put all these things in rubbish bin in your car and finally dispose at proper place.....

Thinking is appreciable ,one should be habitual of following it by heart, but  everyone doesn't  have car to keep the dust bin in ,only about 2% have the car in India.

Simultaneously I don't agree to Mr. Vivek's views ,which concludes as if only India is such type of country where this is the problem.

Yeah.......I do it......I live with my roomies and everyday I carry the garbage bag with me on my way to office. I dump it on the municipality garbage bin. My friends ask me if I really like carrying the garbage bag early in the morning.........I smile my way to glory.............

Thanks for the referral Mr.Yogendra Singh.

It is good topic ..... but in our country we are good planners than executors, and talkers than doers. Keep cleaning is good and healthy for all. Awareness should be launched or everybody should understand the need for it.

The Great Indian stands erect, chews Pan and spits at the newest mall wall to colour it, cost effective way to paint the walls.

The signature stench of Indian -ness is a mark, one should be proud to breathe and still be able to practice the smell sense among the other senses.

Civic sense is a rare virtue which needs to be inculcated since childhood and be practiced in every sphere of life by everyone. Don’t make it a fad rather a habit.

Indian are too lazy to carry garbage to the public dustbin. They hardly take interest to rebuilt the public dustbin if it is broken. The government's garbage taking facility is also not available everywhere which makes it impossible to decompose the garbage resulting in making the area dirty. With the population of this kind of mentality, I don't think dreaming of a clean and beautiful India is ever possible...

Oh! you used "we", thanks for clarification.

Well Yogi jokes apart. As Mr Venkatraman states this does not require any debate. That is the reason of my being light in answering. Whether I click on this side or that I (or anybody) will never disagree to it and say that this idea is "Rubbish".

....and you know I can never doubt on your Indian heart wherever you are.

if those who can and want to do their bit ,it will make a difference. we cant force others to be clean but doesnt mean we should put our sense of cleanliness on hold.

I guess..in India every thing is taken for granted...that its someone else's job to do the cleaning up...but i guess we should fine people who litter around and make them understand that it is our own country and we are the ones who need to keep it neat and clean, no body else is not going to come and do it for you...in many companies they put God's picture on the steps so that people don't spit, when i saw that i was so ashamed that we dont even care of the one we pray to..we even spit on his picture.....I guess the Govt. should pass a law for littering and spreading garbage.....I hope people of the Country will improve their habits and help make this country neat and clean...

Thanks Yogendra for referring. This is the need of the hour and you said it correctly. But we, the indian citizens in a whole irrespective of urban or rural should feel the responsibility. One sentence from the speech of our former president Mr. Kalam 2-3 years back gone through the mind when I saw this topic. How many of the Indians dare to spit or throw the waste in public road when they travel in middle east or singapore. They can follow the rules there, but here all are blaming on Govt: for even for minor issues.

Good topic!! and great arguments...

But i just want to conclude that Govt. will take initiative and ban for every Indians to throw rubbish on roads or anywhere except rubbish bin placed by state Govt. else Govt. will charge penalty in terms of money. And then we can make new debate that "Who will provide information to stop illegal" or "Who will help Govt to stop rubbish".

Because independently we Indian are not able to take initiative to stop rubbish on roads yeah i am also including in India.................

You don't have a car - so you bin stuff on the road? Indians are lazy - well by definition so are you then. The government is to blame - coz they did not give you bins around the road to throw rubbish in? For heaven's sake these are merely excuses. "It may be a drop in the ocean but every drop creates a ripple and every ripple a wave!". The idea of clean India is not 100% spotless cleanliness. Tesco has a tag line which is most appropriate to answer this "EVERY LITTLE HELPS"!!

Every sane person shall dispose the garbage only at proper place no matter he/she is using a car or a bicycle.

Question is how to make everybody sane???

Thanks Mr Chauhan for the referral.

A couple of years back while having a talk about social reforms and the responsibility of an individual in contribution towards it - I came across this phrase "Make Yourself a Good man and there is one less rascal in the world". That is what i learned to practice and it works fine for me and sometimes when i see people follow me i am proud achiever. Whether it is discarding rubbish in a train, bus or my own vehicle i always carry it to the nearest dustbin to dispose it. I cant change the world atleast "I" can change myself not to blame the world for not doing so...

The real India is we- its people and the main reason for its uncleanliness is also because of we-the people. When we keep our surrounding clean, the area also remains clean. When we make it dirty, the area becomes dirty and the combination of many area becomes a country. So, it is on us to keep our country clean or dirty.

A lot of us do this from a long time.taking the garbage on the way to office and dumping it in the corporation dust bins.

Only thing is most of them go till the garbage bin and then MISS the contribution-they try to throw it from a safe distance and end up throwing outside the dust bin thereby creating a nuisance for the residents nearby.

Thats something we all need to avoid doing. just in case I have readers who have done /doing this please think about it and contribute to clean india 100%

So i believe we can practise this habit in our life very easily. if we remember "when we love to see our houses neat and clean than why dont we take care our country or Cities as well"

Hi yogendra its a good thought, but its a matter of awareness among socities too, if you see in Mumbai apart from some areas its in real bad condition and become worse in monsoon season, nothing to mention here about the slum areas. So if it is happening in Mumbai we can understand how serious the matter would be. But its a good idea and every citizen should follow it.

Yes Yogendra ji , we should all practice this.... MOst of us are  doing this. But even a minority's  attitude can bring worst results............Unfortunately our political set up also fails to support  such disciplines . They/we make some slogans like GREEN CITY CLEAN CITY , GOODBYE MOSQUITOES and put big banners all over the city . It  sounds like all mosquitoes will go and die after seeing this banners.

For implementing these concepts , what we require is a thorough practice in the root level .ie at home and schools ,then to residential groups   .

Everyday we try to do that, but the next day the other person might have thrown the garbage. Most of the people do not follow, we have to force them or else the government should look into this.

Dear Friend,

Here is no case for any argument. Everybody would agree with you that there is a specific need for cleaning India and that each one of us should do our mite towards this objective.

Even those who are not in the habit of cleaning their own rooms, would theoretically agree with what you have said.

This is like the story of a king who placed a big vessel in front of his palace and asked all the courtiers to pour one glass of milk in it before the sunrise. Each courtier poured a glass of water, thinking that when all others were pouring milk, his action would not be detected. Next day, the vessel was full of water!

This is a question of changing the attitude of majority of the people. A bit of disciplining is also involved. With the type of political set up we have in India, all these are next to impossible.

If you want an argument, there should be possibility for two answers.

Thanks for posting this to me. After having lived in the US for close to five years when I got back I got the same feeling you get. This is more of the governments responsibility rather a Citizen's.

It is an Economic problem. A problem of lack of efficient environoment or Paretto efficient environment. So if the government is not willing to address this problem on a long term basis then the Citizens efforts will only be temporary and the country will start getting littered the next day everybody gets out to clean. Abroad they keep a Dustbin every 25 feet and they have scientific garbage disposal programs even recycling. It looks like our country hasn't been dusted or cleaned for the past 50 years with everything acumulating everywehre and people has to live with slopy way of ours.
