A vital part of modern medical research is "clinical research." Although laboratory and animal research are of great importance, it is clinical research that will take a research to the therapeutically area. The findings of the clinical research will eventually answer the question "Does this work?” and “Was it worth it”?" To answer this question, specific conditions or treatments are studied in a Clinical Study or Clinical Trial to understand the nature of a disease or the effectiveness of a drug or medical device.This niche of scientific research has many pros and cons, as a study “subject”, is not a laboratory model anymore, but us, human being.As a research scientist I see my potential in contribution to clinical research. But how many of us are actually interested in this contribution; how many “basic” scientists are interested in a carrier in clinical research?

I think the new system of allowing trials will bring in rich rewards. It also offers many jobs and increasing revenue, patients with difficult-to-treat diseases will get benefits at par with their western counterparts. Many medicines of local Indian systems will be available for testing with modern methods and get international exposure if found up to the mark.

The drugs or procedures under study are not always better than the standard care to which they are being compared and also new treatments may have side effects or risks that doctors do not expect or that are worse than standard care.

The paradocs of clinical research actually is that "If the drug works for somebody else, it does not necessary work for me". Participants are not the patients suffering from diseases then what the point of choosing them, we must test on the patients who are suffering.
