Excellent thought Mr. Cherian. Vision of Self-gratification would have begun in 70s not earlier than that. In a country where a legislator gets elected by spending close to thirty crores, he would aim at least 10 times (bare minimum) of what he spent over a period of 5 years, and more importantly he would try to amass as much of wealth as possible within a period of 2 years for there is always an uncertainty whether his election would last for five years. This collective gratification can happen only when we sanitise the election process - therefore, a strong need of electoral reforms - People Representation Act, 1951 needs thorough overhaul.
