Allowing students in India to work part time will discourage class based thinking and unwanted concern about societal status; and enable them to appreciate the dignity of every job. India will see a decrease in 'Babu's, and an increase in socially responsible citizens whose attitudes are tuned for professional realities. This will also reduce stereotyping among students, who only want to become a Doctor, Engineer, IAS Officer or a Scientist. Not the least, they will appreciate the value of time and money earlier in their life.

I go for this approach as the students while undergoing their studies will also have fair idea about realities of market apart from earning their pocket size money..............They can utilize this experience in their projects and can design the new methods in their specializations......which will help them get good jobs after their degrees.......

I feel nobody has stopped it, so no question of allowing it. I feel the student must judge whether their performance is getting enhanced or deteriorated if they take up part time job. At no cost deterioration is accepted. A good performance with loan is better than bad performance with part time. Students take a mental decision not emotional. Jai Hind Santosh Sinha

Yes they should...and they are getting..but students also need to be serios about part time job...i mean consistency here..i have seen that most of the college students will take up some part time job, be there for 2-3 days and stop turning up after that..if u try to reach them, the generic answer will be...i was sleepng so could not turn up...i was busy with frnds so could not come for job etc etc....thats when the interest level goes down while hiring college students...

There is no chance of NO for this question. I felt that most of the youngsters are determined already. Now a days they are engage with them selves with various training or extra curriculum activities. If they get a chance of using their idea and getting practical knowledge by means of financial income its great then. Not only for the financial development, if they work whist study then there maturity level and practicality knowledge ll definitely increase thru that.

Nice Question janki. Being a student i have really thought about this because company get benefit because if the companies give such facility then company need not have to spend time to train the students after their graduation.as students are familier with companies. on the other hand for company purpose view if company is going to sign a bond of 1 year after student graduation then this will be the best deal because students as well as any organizations will satisfy.

It’s good to have students in industry. This will help them to apply theory into practice. I have seen quite a few who have studied while working and have been successful. There are many such opportunities are available but depends on individual to choose from. Other way is to give student opportunities in Industry. This works well when students are really interested for their own growth. However availability of student who sincerely work in industry is not more. I am member of such IIPE where we bring students and professionals togather for the purpose. Any one intrested student/professionals can join the group using link http://groups.google.com/group/iipepune/subscribe?hl=en¬e=1

If you referring to any part-time job to support simultaneous studies, my class-mate in college (during 1977-80), in our small-town used to deliver news-papers. He ultimately completed his M.Sc. (Physics) and became a Teacher in Kendriya Vidyalaya. And during the last Thirty Years, I have been observing, in Hyderabad, every delivery boy of Milk, News-Papers is a kid pursuing his studies simultaneously. And many Girls taking up part-time teaching, though this part-time job may have nothing to do with their future career ambitions. When Indian Retail Sector was in boom, my Nephew in Bangalore used to work part-time for Barista, while doing his Medical Degree. Later he has completed his PG and is now in Hyderabad settled down with a job As for related job-training, many professional schools arrange, as a part of their curriculum, internships with industries for their students, though this practice is not so extensive. If you are referring to the American Style of kids taking up their part-time jobs to earn their pocket-money or summer vacations or even support their studies, the same is not catching up in India, as we still look down upon this kind of activity with low esteem. ‘Dignity-of-Labour’ as a concept is confined to the books here and we prefer preventing our kids from taking up menial jobs and bring dis-repute (sic) to our so-called honour, instead, we would rather pay-up and pamper.

Good subject Janki .... but its not a debate ... nobody will support other side ... its a good ideate i can say.... by the way NECESSITY IS THE MOTHER OF DISCOVERY prove here .... only students like you can think over on it since you are facing the these issues. Well thoughts ...rather I say its a revolutionary idea ... it should be done practically .... and easily can be deployed also... I think four days week working will support this idea .... rest of the two days of a week to be given to these students with a mentor or trainer or guide from organization .... salary of the person who enjoy the three days off to cut down appropriately (for two days rest) and allocate to these working students. This will help in 1 we can trained our future work force 2 reduction in unemployment 3 reduction in social nusiance 4 no extra load on organization 5 daily working people will have a stress releaving extra two days at low cost.

Amazing debate janki, many students are expecting the same. Studying and working is really a good method of education. This will give the students more exposure about the industry and the current issues. Many B-schools are coming with this trend but the government is acting as an obstacle. So the government should realize the importance of this, keeping the students future in mind. Thanks....
