US search engine giant Google is planning to introduce Android-based television software in May which will enable the users to access television through internet.

The new software, designed to open set-top boxes, TVs and other devices to more content from the internet, is attracting interest from partners that include Sony Corp., Intel Corp. and Logitech International SA, which are expected to offer products that support the software, according to people familiar with the matter.

The decision to address developers suggests that the internet giant may be hoping to kick-start a race to build applications for its TV platform, much in the same way that Google, Apple Inc. and others have courted developers for smartphones.

The app-store approach has already begun to gain traction among some players in the TV market, too, aided by the advent of TVs, Blu-ray players and other hardware with internet connections.

The service, which uses the new Google technology, allows users to access and search across programming from the internet as well as Dish's conventional programming. The test, which began last year, is still limited to a very small number of the company's employees and their families.

But this is something Google has made people think, and how the future technology will span out, now even a simple TV will be having its own software.  So, what do you think guys, can Google replace the Tradition TV's which we are using now??

I think yes, today we are seeing new forms of TV's where you get direct in built set top boxes in it so that you need not go for that cable connection at all, and one uses TV for entertainment and these direct to home TV's are doing good at the moment, But Google is bringing something new to the floor where not only internet connection to your tv but also the TV channels with its Internet property and building a androind software for that, and the app store format will become more relevant to the TV market too, where people can go and buy these apps for their TV's and use them, with TV's going from normal to HD, 3D, and Blu-ray. Its good that Google is coming up with this technology which will up the ante interms of television. So yes Google can easily replace the Traditional TV's in coming days......

I tend to disagree!

Its not that TV cannot be seen on your laptops. TATA Photon TV is already in the market to get direct access to TV on the go (albeit only afew select channels). The comfort of watching your fav TV show in the zone that you believe is private and your OWN (HOME) is something that you wouldnt like to trade for. And if you ask me, how many hours would you really dedicate to watching TV on your work stations!! Soon you wold find the cookies blocked by your IT department.

Its a revolutin for sure but its success is my doubt!! Thanks for the referral...

Yes you are correct Ms. Sonam, I agree with your arguments.

Today people love new & new latest developments in technology in all aspects. Hence, this also will replace the traditional TVs gradually but not at faster rate. First the rich class will be able to afford, then the upper class and then upper middle class like that. Above all financial institutions are there to finance for the purchase based on monthly EMI basis. It will get a smooth kick start.

I hope Sony comes out with a webcam on their TV's or on the  the settop box   running android ,

imagine a video chat expereince on a 25 inch big LCD TV ?   ..   :)

what if the TV had a touch screen ,i know it will be very expensive but just imagine the user experience , atleast the remote should improve or PS3 joysticks shoudl have bluetooth and so the setop box too   so that games on an android device could be played on the TV :)

imagine a gaming experience of your phone on a tv ?  ...   :)

Hope i finish ARM 7 soon ,cant wait to jump on ARM cortex and run Android on it  :)

thank you so much sonanji for the referral

Hello Microsoft ? Hello Apple ?? you couldn't do this

allow me to  be a bit biased here ,

The power of OPEN and this is just one good example of it .As the networks become more and more  mature , so much so that one circle may have 2G ,3G , Wifi hotspots and even wimax connectivity , as more and more devices become mature so much so that they have GSM , GPRS , EDGE , Wi-fi , Wimax and 3G modems in them ,

and full of sensors in them like accelerometer ,microphone ,camera ,  gyro , touch pads etc... we would be dealing with  truly "Smart " embedded devices .

as more and more apps keep coming on the App store and Andrid and Chrome OS  become more and more mature so much so that devices running them will boot in just seconds , be extremely fast from start to finish , ,a seamless user experience of apps , etc... we wont be able to differentiate between a mobile , PC ,TV or a fridge !!!

THe future of computing is the embedded systems and for Google ,search from anywhere ,from any device just needs to happen ....

Awesome :)

Of course, they will since now a days internet becomes a mandatory one and every one is having one in the home. This definitely proves to be with more stunning and interesting things around it, other than a normal TV.
