Boss is a human being who has good or bad habits and these habits he carries till his last breath. Therefore, if there is a good boss he is liked  by all and if he is bad he is disliked and ultimately his subordinates resign if there is no alternative other than the same boss.

Anees, this is not a fair comment " I think most people quit their job due to their boss's behaviour". Few people leave a job due to their boss's behaviour. This  also depends if the boss is the owner of the business. If I may go further, it will depend on what is the problem between you and the boss. In the public sector and the corporate world at large, bosses cannot make employees leave their job if they don't want to. Any complaint against the boss are taken to the Human Resources Department and if no satisfaction is guranteed then the matter is taken up with the union representing the workers.

These days employees leave a job for many reasons of which this three is the most common(1) to further their studies(2) a better job offer and (3) to open their own business.

If the boss recommends you to be fired then this is a different scenario. The best option here if you are in the wrong will be to quit on your own accord. It is better to send in your resignation than received a termination letter.

The bottom line is 'bad boss' or 'bad organisation' are not good reason for anyone quitting their job.

People quit organisations if they have misbehaving/ incompetent, ill-mannered bosses 40%, for growth 20%, for better salary 30%, other reasons 10%.

This is how I see this entire thing.

Agree to some extent to Devi's argument. Leaving organisation may be due to many reason & no statistics on it can be reliable. However the debate is very specific & related on resignation either due to Bad boss or due to bad organisation. Considering this two aspect my experience says that a bad boss provokes an employee to resign even from a good organisation where as a good boss can motivate an employee to continue even in a bad organisation. Thus if compared I belive in normal condition immidiete boss is more dominant than the organisation itself. Rest other reasons such as better offer, education etc have no relation with the boss or organisation & I don't think this has any relevance in this specific debate.

Hi All,

Definitely the resignations are on the higher rate due to bad bosses............i feel. Because the organisation is being formed by the management and if people from the management are not good then what more could be the reason ?

I am of an opinion that people don't quit organization but their bosses. Again these may not be true in all cases, even organization working culture, environment do play a pivotal role in controlling the behavior of employee. However  to conclude bosses are more responsible to control employee from resignation of employees

It cannot be a bad organisation. End of day its the top management who makes or breaks an organization. If the boss is bad then rather accept it! If the boss is really good then his employees are happy and inturn they say that their organization is very good. So its the boss who makes the difference.

Agreed...In MBA books theoretically there are many reasons, but at the end of the day there is only your boss who motivate, nourish, transfer your achievements to super boss and parallel feels competition from you ,punish and harass you also.

I just want to clear it that in most of the cases resigning from any organization is an instant decision and boss's behavior/attitude is one of the strong reasons behind that which can be seen most common in Indian/ Indian MNC.

One can sustain in a bad organisation as whatever may the culture of organisation they require good worker. But it is difficult to survive under a bad boss even if the organisation is very good. Most resignations are due to bad boss/manager/leader only.

In my views most of the employees leave thier job because of their boss's behavior. Most of the time bosses do not try to understand the matter or i can say that they do not want to listen what the actual problem is? They always try to show their bossism. They are lacking the ability of handling people. There are some practical problem at ground level but they don't listen and start shouting.I think no organization is bad because organization is made by the people.

neither bad boss :: nor bad organisation ::

one should know how to manage a bad boss::  why can't we mould his mind also ::this is management ::

at the end of the day the adjectives uttered by the holy mouth of boss are real time performance appraisal , rest is just piece of paper ::

go further :: the adjective is just words which is just a voice ::

fire the boss :: listen the fire :: shut your mind :: forget it ::

Bad bosses survive in bad organisations,if the organisation follows proper manangement and HR practices then any boss can not go beyond that to behave badly, all eventually is bad orgnsn which allows bad persons to run show in their own ways

The future of an employe is depend upon the organisation not with the boss. If the the management and polcies of an organisation is not good the empoyies are coustious about their career.

We sometimes might as well manage to handle bad boss but if the organization is not performing , does not have good  strategic plans,  then your future is at stake.

So bad organization is not what u can think of when you are thinking of better career prospects.

On junior level, issues with peer or his/her perks, importance in the team,BOSS's reach to his team are the other main causes for employee separation.I think we should have discussed this topic in some other way by not highlighting the BOSS alone.

I believe on junior levels people quit organizations because of bad bosses. However, as people get professionally mature, they realize bad bosses happen because of bad organizations. If the people senior to the bad boss do not have the ability to foresee the damage being done by the bad boss, it means the entire organization culture is bad. There is no point for talented people wasting time in such organizations. Its better to move on and do more constructive and intellectual things than indulge in non constructive activities. It also shows that the senior management is not connected to the various levels in the hierarchy. I believe an employee should always have his loyalty to the organization and not to the boss.

I'm not in support of this option either. Yet,as the BAD BOSS sounds odd than this,I'm writing my thoughts on this side. Many of our friends have already highlighted the common reasons.Adding to that,I would like highlight my thoughts in this regard:

An employee's relation with his organization completely depends on the working environment. Many people in the lower experience bands will not even think of doing a back ground check on the organisation to know the technology/work culture/employee benefits etc. before joining the firm. They just go with the interviewers/HR words and in most cases  perks remain the ruling factor. They just think that they can fit to any environment while doing this.

The interesting part is when the expectation are not met, they start realizing and blame the company in all aspects. However, BOSS also can be one reason among the others. But after taking the interviews of 200+ people, what I realized is BOSS is not at all the reason; further few of them gave their BOSS's number in reference part.

This question could have been presented in the ideating section, as it poses confusion to vote in support of either. Resignations cannot be attributed either to Bad Boss or Bad Organisation. It could be for any reasons as Devi highlighted.

Bosses  can be good, bad and ugly.if your performance and zeal to move forward persists you definitely can make your mark.

An organization can generally said to be bad if the following prevails

1 Policies and process does not exist.

2 absence of fair & healthy employee work culture

3.Lack of employee growth and opportunities

An employee working in such organization will tend to resign owing to lack of growth & job satisfaction.

All said employee resignation  normally get triggered by circumstances that are personnel Again concept of bad boss/bad organization are individual mindset and hence it would be wrong to hard code them

I agree to this argument, first reason would be best offer as said. If current organization doesn't utilizes employee in perfect manner then quitting occurs. Prompt pay would me most of important reason some organization's is not paying timely. If employee don't know when salary is going to be paid it's very horrible and gets important reason to leave the company. This also comes difficult when settlement will be given and all dues will be cleared or not. It's better to get opinions of old employees of the organization before joining.

"Bad" Boss or "Bad" Organization can not be "good" reason for resignation.

They also do not represent common reasons for resignation.

"Better prospects" should be an appropriate reason for resignation.

You may be well established in an good organization with good boss, but still you must have a strong urge to take up challenging assignments, growing responsibilities. The urge for betterment in present stature also include better emolments. If one wants to earn more, there is nothing wrong. All these reasons, which fall under "better prospects" should be an appropriate reason for job change.

Most of the people resign their jobs because of their behaviour not match with the oraganization's behaviour. It include relations with the peers, not satisfy with policies which they adopted and atmosphare of the whole organization.

But in every organization you have to adjust you self according to the situatuion.

I believe that the people leave the jobs not because of bosses but because of many reasons, which cannot be confined to bad company or bad bosses...

The employee leaves the job because he is not happy with the HR practices, the policies, the salary, work timings, environment, location, brand, better job offer, start his own business and many more.....

Organization will include everyone in the company. He  may be boss or employee..So if organization is not doing good and does not satisfy the need of employees than its obvious that employee will give resignation

Both the reason are equally responsible for an employee's resignation but bad organization is the mostly seen reason for resignation. As far as I have seen most of the employees leave their organization because of not getting a job upto their mark or bad job profile. They also leave the organization because of not getting the expected challeges or over pressure or less recognition....

What i feel is nature of boss or any senior/ junior is not the criteria to leave ur company.. many other things like company policies and your growth along with it is most important..

People often use to change jobs or resign not because of Boss but just because of the policies formed by an organization. There are people who resign for their future growth so, if organization is unable to promote their employees then it will loss its internal market.

I think, accumulation of many small small things directed to a decition of job change.

Teh people having less tollerence tak ethis decition quickly and frequently.

Bad bos may be a reason but not paying a major role when other matters are favourable.

Attitude of the bose's bos, work cultutre of teh organisation, attitude of organisation on adapting new technology, accoundability etc etc.. are also playing a major role.

Actualy one is trying to escape by saying just " Due to bad bos" or "Bad Organisation.
