Many companies in India like Infosys, EDS & Mphasis are all asking their former employers to come back who had quit in the first  place, It's great that they are asking, but there will be many things that in an employees mind that will be going through, due to various reason's one would have quit the job in a company, what will it happen if they are joining the same company again after quitting, will they be able to get the same respect that  an employee had, and will he grow  same as others in that company, there are many questions that needs to be answered.

So, what do you think people, as an employee what should you do?? Should one join the company which they had left or should not join?? Share your views on this....

It all depends on the reason why you have left. I assume that a company will not ask someone to come back if they had a major disagreement unless the point of conflict has been removed/resolved (in case of manager-issues for instance).

If a employee left because of opportunities elsewhere, you should ask yourself if the company should ask him/her back since a new opportunity will probably lure the employee away again. This makes the employee a liability.

I, for myself, would join a previous company again if they could offer me the career-opportunities that I desire. But then again, I left in the past because they could not, not because of some disagreement.

No, I don't think one should join the company once they have quit, as there will be future clash happening among the employees on many occassions taking their work into regard, and there might be reason one would have quit reasoning salary as the criteria, but later on joins due to some reasons, there will be complications in future interms to their growth and some what the cameraderie between the employees would have lost, and the productivity will be affected in the company which one had left it before..........

The system of reappointment of old employees even with analysis of the reasons which resulted in their parting off, is not practically possible because 99 % of the reasons on the record are the commonly not true, a large %age of people leave Managers not the organisation.

It is always win-a win position for employee & employer to get re associated to each other as the old employes will have lot of value additions in there deleverables & intentions.

However some of the points must be very transparent about the employee

 1. Track of the employees assignment after quitting the job.

 2. His reason to quit the the current organisation.

 4. His suitability in the running scenario should be better this time.

 4. His remunerative ambitions should bematching the companies policy to     retain him for a reasonable period as he cannot be re employeed for the third time.

 5. The re employment workes better at the Junior levels & is dyanamic decission for Top or management levels.

Thus the re- employment is effective process but conditional to the nature of organisations & the levels of keeping in view the well designed stratigies of the organisations.

A big YES !!! for this one...as its always better to get back the old employees who have served for the organization, as they are the one's who understand the job very well, knows the loop holes and the main marketing strategy's of the organisation as a whole. Getting back the old staff would also mean in a way of securing the company from market crashes or hit...since the company's secrets stay within the organization..Also the first customer for any company would be its own employees,it's own staff..It's always better to motivate and appraise them, in way of being a part of increasing their moral values...thereby ensuring huge profits and benefits for the organization in return...

Thanks for invite Sudeep,

Find no reasons not to join if the terms are better but only if there is a sufficient reason or dissatisfaction with present one.

As changing jobs too frequently is never a good indicator.

they must join back if due to recession induced downsizing they had been asked to lay off.that shows they were indispensable for the organisation and now their contribution is needed.no self esteemed or employer likes to take back a person who left for greener pastures.

The old staff joining back to the organisation is right sign that there is some correction made in the sytem. That is why they join back. This correction shows that the company is progressing in theright track. But the old staff certainly will block the promotion of new staff and they would join in some other organisation for better prospectus. Any how getting back the old staff in the mother organisation certainly will help the organisation to reach its height.

I do't think that they will not get the same respect. It will depends upon the indivisual how much +ve maner they use to take the issue. First of company will have great advantage by reemploy the same men in same organisation, there is no doubt about that. So why they will not show their courtsey to them rather than the newly recruit people. Because the out put from the re-employed old quit person is always high & immediate nature than the new/fresh an employee. So I will prefer more on the old employee, as we know the proveb "Old is Gold".

That can be a tough call it really depends on a persons situation and why they left in the first place. Sometimes it can be ok to go back to a former employer but it should really depend on a persons’ circumstances and terms of employment. A person could return to a former employer on a trial basis just to see how things would work out and if they don’t seem to be going in the right direction then a person should make plans to leave that employer for good and not return.

What it really boils down to is strategy. It’s all in the strategy that you use, your terms or conditions of employment and/ or your career goals. A person really needs to strategically think about this.

Don’t make any quick moves without strategically thinking about things & a sound plan. A person should have a meeting with the former employer to discuss things such as the terms of employment and benefits. Then this could help a person to think better about it & give a person a better focus and direction to make a decision about it.

A person needs to ask himself/ herself many questions before agreeing to return to a former employer such as: Would this be a good idea to return? Is this a good time to return? How would returning benefit me? Would this job fit into my future career plans? Etc, etc….

There are many things that can be said and done. It really all depends on your strategy & plans, a persons' situation, how they feel about returning and the benefits of returning. A person really needs a strategy and a plan for the direction of their career.

Sudip you are on dot. One shouldnot join the company he or she left since at a latter stage conflict is must and the ultimate result one should quit once again which will be too late.

Firstly...the reason that any employee quits is either if there is no scope for growth as expected or compensation or if he/she thinks that they are not getting the right value for their hardwork in the company.

In my opinion.. its always better to leave old ghosts and move forward. For sure..if any associate joins back the previous company within a short span of time..they will not have any value there... they won't get the respect they need...

The major reason i see here is possible lack of growth opportunities as the employer would think twice before assigning any major work with responsibility (thinking this person might quit leaving the work inbetween). In terms of respect, i believe on the face they will get good respect as the emploer is calling them itself...employees are not going there asking for work....
