I would say definitely an employee's salary sometimes decide the status of the company. When companies starts cost-cutting its always said that their is a financial problem in the company.

Yes cost cutting definitely says that but employee salaries does not show that it depends on the individual capabilities.

People are sometimes paid higher for retaining their employees that also shows that they have great deal of workforce. Consider in case of Chanda Kocher the bank really wants to keep her that is the reason she is paid higher and promoted regularly.

In case of same designation there salaries does create a status difference not in the mind of the company but definitely in the mind of the consumers.

As far as image of a company among employees/ prospective employees is concerned salary is not the only parameter to decide the image. I think there are very few people who leave/join companies only for some increment in salay. Instead they look for the things like learning, projects, work culture, growth prospects, transparency, creativity etc. etc.
