Desalination technique is in existence since two decades. Although, it can covert sea water to fresh water - not drinking water. But, I agree this technology although expensive should be encouraged for irrigation and industry purpose.

Very true and I fully agree Mr.Atul. We all must learn to conserve water. In short I would like put forward the messege like below. REDUCE , RCYCLE AND REUSE THE MOST ECONOMICAL NATURAL RESOURSE AND CONSERVE IT FOR A BETTER FUTURE. Since the water level is increasingly going down and down due to the deforestration and faster urbunisation, one must understand the dangerous scenario this can pose in the days ahead. It may so happen that water may be costiler than oil and is already true in some gulf countries. The desalination companies may become the major employers and we may have to get water instead of salary. The armis may have to protect their water sources instead of border. Let us put our honest efforts to conserve water.

There's plenty of water in form of rains and moisture in atmosphere....most of it is not utilized...so we need to harvest using water recharging and using techniques such as atmospheric water collection which is newly developed, this water then can be conserved for use.

Water water everywhere, not a single drop to drink..this is what the state of affairs is now...its now high time we start harvesting water and take some initiatives starting from our homes to conserve water.Small steps like closing taps when not in use, restricted use of water wherever possible etc can lead to a big leap in conserving water..desalination of sea water for use in industries etc can also reduce our dependencies on ground water...jaago bhai log jaago...

I agree with Mr.Joshi that the best option to tide over water scarcity is to harvest rain water. I think almost all state govts in india have proper laws/legislation in place to force people to harvest rain water but the end result is not even satisfactory (it could be because of the high cost in building a rain water harvesting system plus the poor implementation of the laws that make it mandatory to build rain watering harvesting systems)
