India is a major power in the world, but does not act like one ! At Copenhagen we were a passive responder, we did not take a lead. If India is not part of the problem (Global Warning), it can be be at least part of the solution...?

To get an agreement about climate change will be a very long road. It is unrealistic to expect a good agreement in this first step. Hopefully, there will be some more opportunities in the future.

Though nothing great materialised a first step is always a good step. At least now there is a background on which to proceed further. The next round of climate talks can focus on the failures and what was not achieved here. But it should be held at once as mother nature is not going to wait for us to meet and arrive at an understanding to set things right. The world is replete with climate changes charachterised by extreme snow fall and hot temps even in winter. If all these are not indications, what else can be? All the nations have a moral responsibility to carry forward the copenhagen talks and bring it to a fruitition. The Industrialised nations have to take the lead here as they are the ones who have reaped the benefits of all this industrialisation and contributed to its accompanying downfalls. But it would be a complete failure if there is not progress on this first step. Like Neil Armsrong commented, "Its one big step for mankind" when he landed on the moon, so also this is indeed a huge step for mankind provided it is acted upon.

It is first good step. I had an oppurtunity to hear Dr. R.K.Pachauri today speak on strategic management of energy & environment for sustainable development. There were many questions raised by the audience on existence of development models ,if any , which were not energy driven.Dr. Pachauri cited the example of Japan. He also mentioned of the impact that BASIC (Brazil , South America , India & China) group countries had on the proceedings of Copenhagen summit. Extensive Development of Railways network by China was cited as a good example of controlling emissions by proving efficient public transport with state of the art technology. Of course there were other views also like India should first make all out efforts to improve its per capita electricity consumption to the standards of the developed countries .

Copenhagen is not a complete failure. It didnt bring out anything concrete like the Kyoto meet which introduced the concept of Carbon credit trading and emission targets. Developed countries didnt make any great commitments but focussed on rising economic powers like india and China. Though this may sound a bit discriminatory, it is in fact a blessing in disguise as it will lead to an emphasis on environmentally sound development in these countries.

At least a step is taken.. the problem is so wast that it cant be solved in a day or two. At lease some of the thoughts were raised. Consequences were measured. It is now worry of entire universse not a single country or a nation. Yes the developed countries should have actively imposed some of the acts on themselves and should have lead. But Indian voice politically raised but not technically. Indian way of life is the only solution for all environmental related problems

I AM STRONGLY SUPPORT ON THIS, BECAUSE WHEN WE IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AND STARTED TO PUT ALL THE HEAD TOGETHER, THIS IS THE WAY TO SOLVE ANY PROBLEM IN THE WORLD. ALSO MY STRONGLY BELIEVE IS THAT WHEN A PERSON HAS ACCEPTED THE PROBLEM AND COMMITED TO SOLVE IT THE 60% OF THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED AT THAT TIME. SUPPOSE WE NOT DID THIS MEETING AND IN THE COOMING FUTURE WE ARE DECIDING TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM THIS WAS THE FIRST STEP TO DO AT THAT TIME, THAT WE DID TODAY. SO IN ALL THE ASPECTS THIS WAS THE FIRST STEP WE HAVE TO APRICIATE THIS THING. VINAY MANDAN

THIS IS THE WAY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM, AND EVENTHOUGH WHEN EVER IN FUTURE WE START TO WORK ON THIS PROBLEM THIS WAS THE FIRST STEP THAT WE ALREADY DID. SO I AM STRONGLY SUPPORT THIS. THIS IS A FIRST GOOD STEP.

It looks to me that it is First good step. In terms of legal binding its complete failure. But in terms of awareness it is 1st good step. Like India & China's step to migrate to BSIII & BSIV. Many private sector companies are coming with new idea. In coming days I am seeing that term "carbon footprint" will status symbol. After 3-4 more try it will show result.

Vinay, we identified the problem long back but the meet was held recently. You mentioned that atleast now they are speaking about this issue. But they did not come to a conclusion what to do to solve this problem. Then what is the use of conducting such meet where every head join together and not in a position to solve the issue.

The complete failure is in the sense, that it has failed to evolve consensus. The debate was directed at the developing economy. The only silver lining it has left that developed economy has to ultimately adjust to the fast changing world economy.

A good step is one to initiate resolution. The fact is that climate change is due to fast paced development of the developed countries. They have now realised ill effects of tranferred technology. The developed economy is on the other side of tropic cancer. The change will affect them primarily. It is therefore their bounden obligation to support developing economy by latest technology and fundings.Instead they disperse without resolution. In the sense,it was a total failure.

the copenhagen summit in denmark failed to conclude a cost effective and feasible alternate energy solution to especially the developing and underdeveloped nations. Those nations which still fight for their daily bread couldn't afford the big loan amount that the developed countries are offering and in turn becoming a country whose GDP was flowing to the hands of developed contries which will inturn make them more poorer than they already are. Now coming to the global warming, the countries those depend coal as 90% of their energy source and who are running a V8 or V12 powered engines should control themselves before putting an argument to the other world. One of the alternate solution put by America was shale oil which involves a very expensive and complex procedure for extracting the oil and the amazing fact is the world largest deposit was found in America at the Green river bed formation, which is greater than 3 times the oil deposit in saudi arabia. Personally i believe in an argument said by a scientist that ' the climate is always changing and it will keep on changing and human has very little to do about and is not due to human'. In Antartica, which is in the picture of climate change, the climate is cooling up than heating up which is contrary to all arguments.

I think this is not a good step because, Literally the so-called leaders of American Continent do not have any commitments from their side. its like :I say,you do, you must do or else face the consequences, whereas the broader concept would be: Let us work for the green earth save movement, I as a leader will work and prove myself, then you follow my steps for a better world ; this would be good. But, Alas the Morlds BIG BOSS Thinks that they are the Authortariants for any issue and others must obey. This is not acceptable from everyone who has the will, wit and wisdom to do for a better business than bitter deed!

The problem with developed countries in general and USA in particular is that they want to maintain their economic presence. The developing economy which is the resultant technical know-how of what they have supplied or dumped?.It is their own folly. No target is binding unless developed countries ease their purse to support the developing countries and they themselves fix the targets to reduce the pollution. In a way Copanhagen meet was a fiasco.
