A sound professional of Project Management requires to be able to take timely and corrective action on any failure on any aspect of a project at any stage to render it successful in the overall perspective. How does he go about  acquiring knack to do it ?

Thanks for the support. My experience says, failures can be at any given time of the project be ascertained  with monitoring tools at basic level, and can be forecast with the help of awareness of changing works envoirment and circumstances. For the latter, an example would be,  a sudden increase in cost or shortage of a required major input material,  could drastically affect the  cost to the the project or time schedule respectively. Corrective actions are to be  pragmatic in nature and are specific to the failure element of the project.  It is notewothy that corrective actions are not always foolproof but even then should be effective to a good extent.

Yes, i do agree, but  seniors are  trainup the juniors in the respective feilds. So % of failure will control and productivity as well as quality both run parallel  together.This my experience.

Professionalism is incomplete without the ability to identify the failure(s) of a project. Lessons learnt from previos and other projects is to be utilised to take timely corrective steps.

yes jayram Project Failures are everywhere. One should learn from History to avoid such mistakes. My therory is it they one should look at combination of several things:

Project Process
Client requirements
Communication
Goals
