Muralidhar nice argument with example but I think you can build more attractive building with concrete roofs. The labor expenses are also less compared to corrugated roofs because of shortage in labors. And that trend is slowly getting saturated and will not exit in few years.

I believe Concrete roofs are better. It doesn't need periodic maintenance and has better water proofing capabilities than slanting roofs

Corrugated roofs are economical onlt at places where small spans are available, but for long spans, they tend to become more expensive in maintenance and also capital cost is higher, with the requirement of heavy trusses. * The more important factor is, water proofing over the deck area, which require high risk level as when the height is more. *More of accidents are seen in such cases, which makes it very unsafe. *It needs to be designed in a proper fashion as to take the wind loads into consideration. * We can also have sloped RCC roof for your asthetic factor to mach along if required at places. * Lesser reliable methods of water proofing are available for these roofs. This argument may last over very long as there are innumerable points for discussions. There are different circumstances where to adopt any of this type, so take a decision wisely.

Corrugated sheets can be cost effective if its used for temporary structures, storages. they are not suitable for permanent living structures. CG sheets are inexpensive, however If you consider the LCC of the structure, CG sheets are not cost effective for a permanent structure. Unless you are into D.I.Y. it does not make any sense to have maintenance done after every cyclone, using Corrugated sheets for permanent structures would be penny wise and pound foolish. For aesthetic purpose you can always go for sloped concrete roofs

Gents & ladies roofing in tropical country like india or most of asian country, factor like weather & economy affects at lot. In simple words hard walls and roof give more permenany feel to humans than flexible ones for homes (where living time is more in a day), This is a architectural requirement and basic fact. so, homes definitely with concrete roofs is best ones. Industrial, commerical, education, office etc all put roof sheetings ( where living time is lessin a day).

The roofing pattern depends on the type of structure and the end use pattern apart from location, climate, meteorological factors, availability & procurement of materials, so on...... The corrugated sheet/ sloped roofs can not be taken as a substitute of conrete roof at one go. Even for economy, the RCC sloped roof comes as competitive with better appearance, maintenance and constructibility reasons.

Concrete roofs are strong, durable and safe(from housebreaking too!) compared to corrugated sheets presently available in the market. The sound insulation provided by concrete roofs is also commendable compared to corrugated roofs. Also any maintenance required over the concrete roof can be done easily compared to corrugated roofs where the whole of the sheet has to be removed for maintenance(even for gaining access to the roof)

First of all it is not clear that which material for corrugated sheets. Secondly regular maintenance itself is sufficient reason for it being unpopular.

concrete roofs are also given required slope also to drainout rain/used water, sheet roof are economical but if any stone thwake this roof it may have hole in it qhich can be rectified only by changing sheet and thus becomes temporary and not a long lasting ,while rcc not, again the angle and channel on which it is supported may be rusted, Bot for earthquack and hilly area it is good inpite of above deffects.

Going through the experience of Haiti earth quakes especial;ly for ewarth quake porne places corrugated sheets should be used for constructions so that loss of human life is minimised or avoided. With regard to water proofing necessary steps should be taken to ensure longlife for concrete roofs in consultation with the the architects at the time of construction so that leaks are arrested at construction stage. All guidances of Architects such as curing etc., should be implemented be qualified/experienced architects/civil Engineers.

I agree with Mr. Yogendra since I feel that the corrugated sheets are better solution as there is no replacement expected for the above in another 50 years. coming to the points mentioned by you 1. Now with the advancement in the technology we can have a mezzanine floor instead of concrete roof which is already being implemented in many multiplex. 2. The roof fixed with self drilling screws which can withstand the wind upto 1000 KM/Hour speed. 3. This comes as a single length sheet roof along the slope and even the repair is affordable if any but where as in concrete roof grouting is to be done in case of dripping roof which is not the guaranteed solution for dripping and also is comparativele expensive. 5.Sheet roofs can be used to have various shapes in the roof (like pyramid, parabolic etc.,) and can give a better look than simple concrete roof and if we go for this kind of shapes in concrete it is too expensive.

I do differe that Concrete roofs do not need periodic maintance & has better water proofing capability. Concrete roofs necesarily need regular maintance for longitivity. Further no concrete is water proof. Grading is provided for drainage of water. Still some water percolates inside the concrete which in long term results in to corrosion of steel & after 30-40 years the slab becomesweak. On the other hand slanted roofs drain the water very quickly & comparatively more water proof. The biggest advnatage is if some part damages it can be readily replaced in part. In case concrete roof if it is damaged the entire slab has to be redone.

Depending on the climatic conditions Roof has to be adopted. In heavy rainfall areas/snow/etc sloped roof is the choice. It serves the purpose very well. If the roof is going to be the final roof of the building without plans for adding another floor then again sloped roof is the best irrespective of climate In sloped roof we have now a number of options,There are GAlvalume sheets which is 55% Al and 45% |Zn with exterior durable polyester finish. These can take on high winds heavy snow or heavy rainfall. It comes in variety of colours. Also available is sandwich panels with puf or rock wool insulation . This is easier to erect and if addionally floor has to be constructed this roof structure can be dismantled and used on the the new storey. If the slope is perfect for Solar panels,it can be used for the same without additional inclined support In terms of weather proofing and water proofing sloped roofs costs less and maintainence is low. That doesent mean I am totally aganist flat roof. The also serve their purpose if we have to use the flat roof for multi usage as roof garden, partying, restuarant,or sleeping under the stars.

The geographic area dictates to a large extent the choice of the roofing material. - A roof in a climate that experiences snow, has to have a certain angle of slope to shed the snow. If the snow cannot slide off the roof structure may not be able to support the weight of the snow. So the choice of materials that are cost effective on steeper pitched roofs is critical.
- Many areas in the world are now legislating in favour of the use of non flammable roofing. Not just in high risk fire areas.

In a short term review, concrete roofs may appear better but never up to mark particularly in a span of 20/25 years. Concrete roofs suffer bad workmanship as semiskilled masons are the sole in charge of construction Cover to reinforcement never maintained & cracks develop after 20 years which is vulnearable to collapse at any moment. Leakage of rain water is common in concrete roofs as concrete is never water proof. Grading is the only way to control seepage but again the grading is to be maintained. It is wrong to say that corrigated roof are not aesthatic. In fact if designed well it gives better views. Five star hotels now days have slanted roof cottages. It is cheap & easily maintainable. In a country like India, slanted roofs are best from all aspects.

I agree, in a country like ours, this system is most economical and this gives good elevation also, I have seen in the hot as well as heavy rain fall areas such as Assam and North East, dwellings mostly with such type of construction well built with low mainatainance.

Depending on where the home or roof would be built, it's best to ask a home building expert or construction company It’s hard to say about either because both have pluses & minuses. And both styles will require maintenance at some point in time. For concrete roofs, the building must be able to handle the extra weight. Roof would probably need to be reinforced. Metal roofs are must lighter in weight. Metal sheet roofing also protects against corrosion in air and water, and has allowed corrugated metal roofing to become one of the most durable and withstanding roofing materials. A corrugated metal roof is very strong; it has the ability to last a long time. Corrugated metal sheet roofing is also extremely weather proof, and can withstand extreme weather conditions, as they are able to contract and relax with heat. Corrugated metal roofing is environmentally friendly and is completely recyclable. It is also able to reflect some of the sun’s rays, and can hence partially reduce your heating and cooling bills. The lightweight also makes installing corrugated metal roofing a simple and therefore inexpensive process. If the home in an earthquake prone area? Would you want over your head, 3,000 lbs of sheet metal, or 3,000 lbs of concrete? A concrete roof also cuts down the risk of damage from fire, termites, fungi and water damage, in many areas; concrete roof construction also allows structures to bypass certain building codes and can also cut down on insurance premiums. While concrete tiles don't provide the solid stability of a concrete roof, they do afford protection against really strong winds. Despite their durability, tiles can break and dislodge courtesy of earthquakes, sufficiently harsh weather and falling debris. Moss and algae can also develop over time and may require pressure washing or chemical treatment. Today, modern concrete technology allows average homeowners the opportunity to strengthen their roofs with stone, yet without abandoning traditional roofing styles. Many builders have followed the use of using greater quantities of concrete in home construction.

Greetings to all. This part I am writing is not exactly supporting or opposing but rather a fusion I'd like to suggest. We here are diecy regarding the use of both. Well I belong to Himachal, so it is a hilly area and both the roofs work well if in a concrete roof the sloping is taken well into account. In fact there are roofs which are made of slates. A huge number of slates put together makes a roof. Thats the traditional way. If there is a singlee story you may go in for either & in case of a double story make the top roof with sheets. Good rain harvesting, aesthetic looks and a fusion of both. If the maintainence cost for the sheet is to be reduced(if tin sheet), then it should be primered first and then painted to match the colour in accordance to the tones of the house. The maintainence is reduced by at least 4 times.

Yes corrugated roofs and slopes are good idea there is too much of concrete all over, with this we can give the structural difference that is needed for a building and it is also cost effective than concrete, so it is better to go with this option....

We always try to play the role of follower. What we see around we tend to follow that irrespective of its usefulness. Same is with the concrete roofs. We everywhere see these kinds of roofs only. So we go with that without exploring other cost effective and efficient options.
