Let's say you've got a really good idea for business. You show it to your colleagues. They analyze it. They tell you why it's not a good idea. Do you go with your instinct? Is your gut reaction to be trusted?

Could intuition carry any value in business decisions? What you guys say ??????

We base our decisions on certain data and available resources but that gut feeling inside eachone is normally ignored. It is wise to knock that door once. My 16 years of experience has proved time and again that intuition works most of the time. Looking under the surface, looking around corners, finding that right feeling puts many decisions in a better rewarding position. No matter how many experts you put on the job, the essence is to have the right judgement which comes from your inner self. If everybody resonates the same way the work is half done!

Thought provoking debate guys !!! My take: The discussion on intuition is on for a quite a long & I agree that most wonderful strategies are split second gut decisions made by managers who carried the responsibility of directing the firm i.e in charge of strategy. But the realities of business has grown on to accommodate complexities arising from ever improving technology, expanding markets etc and with them the data complexity has grown. So the ability of a manager to substantiate his gut feel has diminished considerably, while the penalties on wrong decisions has grown exponentially . All our analytics does is to solve the data complexity part to enable a human brain substantiate its analysis of dynamic complexity. So there is no question of which is better bcoz even analytics may lead to close situation, in such cases only a human brain going by its ability to analyze dynamic complexity of the system in which it operates takes the final call. So it is all about inculcating a systematic understanding of the underlying business premises and structures by constantly enabling the human mind to make sense out of the data rich world through analytics. Any thoughts !!!

Gut feeling is double edged sword. It has ability to bail you out from a situation where you had no other means to sort it out while it can play havoc in some cases where everything was indicating the other way,you went with your gut and it didn't work out.I would suggest what I would call Rationally Seasoned Gut Feeling.

Whenever somebody reaches a crossroad, his active mind maps this data to the most closely related data available in subconscious mind. Now closer the data available better will be your decision based on this gut.Thats primarily the reason that as people grow older there are more chances of their gut feeling being correct but not always. So a better way is keep thinking about most precarious situation that may come and what would be your response.when the actual situation comes it may not provide you with the luxury of having ample time to decide but at least you will have data in your subconscious mind to support your gut feeling. There goes a saying, "I think and thats why I am dangerous".

Intuition is not developed in a day, a whole experiance is beside this when some thing you feel, your inner urge says that its right/ or wrong. So gut feeling always work as you become older and master in your feild. Rest is all matter of chance

DEFINITELY YES,

BRAHMA IS NOT ADORED SO MUCH AND IS ALSO NOT SUCCEEFUL COZ. HE IS A SPINSTER.

SO CARRY A WOMAN WHILE CUTTING A DEAL.

BECAUSE A WOMAN HAS GREAT SIXTH SENSE AND A MAN HAS, OH AM I RIGHT OR NOT ,SHARP FIVE SENSES

YES. However, every one will have some sort of intuition, but to have the right intuition which proves productive in the end, one should have the experience and capability to churn the matter in hand in one's brain and change the intuition into a clear vision.

Those who have been successful in chasing their intuition by doing the out of the ordinary, will definitely have to face obstructions from conservatives and hurdles from go-by-the- book bosses and may be the subordinates also.

I have followed my intuition in my over 50 year long career and I can say that nothing succeeds like success.

Intuition,It is the special gift the mankind got. So most of the time it works. But should be exercised with caution.

For me ... more than logical analysis, intuitive feeling works most of the time and also, it is correct and right in most cases; but every time for everyone, it may not be so !

Therefore caution is recommended; And like any other skill or talent - Intuition can be honed and developed more and more by practice ... It is an energy-thoughts-feeling connection at consciousness level;

However, I agree with Sudeep that intuition does play an important role / part in business decision making and I would like to depend upon it, more often than not ...

Analysis is at mental - logical / reasoning level, which has its own limitation like 5 senses, while intuition comes from Consciousness level, which is more holistic and can be called 6th sense ...

My intution says YES. However, if there is not enough information to decide, usually intution also goes silent. When there is enough information and there are equal choices, then intution plays a role. That's when people call it a difficult decision.

Example, changing a job.

I would also agree with vickram that sometimes you need to go with your gut feeling when making some decisions because proper analysis of the things doesn't necessarily mean that you will be successful everytime. there are certain situations and decisions which can't be taken just by going with the normal way of decision-making, you need to come out with the intuitive decisions.

intuition are based on certain logical and collateral experience of the past and the present domain, based on certain facts and figures, so intuition should carry certain values in business decision.

I know that a lot of people have spent a lot of time debating the merits set forth, but there is one theme that continues to resonate with me. People's whose intuition is strong in certain areas benefit from the ability to filter the opportunity or question through the correct set of information, and nothing else. What you guys say????

Business means money! An idea can be discussed, crystallised and if plausible implemented. Business does not work on whims and fancies! Having a hunch about the product / brand working is different than intuition! Its not even what you call gut feeling!

Intuitions are not about money making, they are about people behaviour, weather, turnout of an event and other such non physical matters. You make money when you sell period! Intuitions have no shelf in business.
