I am not against CRM but there are few things which needs to be kept in mind that even CRM could not be sold without sales force.

Information on hand is very crucial for any business. Enterprise sales departments should maintain the sales funnel and should do a regular follow-up and update the status records. Having Periodical reviews with the team and discussing and planning strategies for winning is an important aspect. Whether they use the sophisticated CRM software or just a simple excel spreadsheets with the funnel information, they can achieve best results and reach targets.

1. CRM is meant to do the real Value addition job i.e interacting with customers to :

a) Find their exact needs in terms of Quality , Service and Price vis a vis competitors and to make sure that better combination of these factors is provided to customer so that you retain your existing customers plus add new customers from your competitors .

b) So real job of CRM is to retain existing customers and to add new customers from compititors and in my book i.e more than 60-80% of the job .

c) Sales staff was and is very important where infrastructure is a bottle neck but with better infrastructure and growth of Internet most of the sales is going to shift to purchase through internet against credit card and hence need for physical sales force is going to go on reducing. In future terms it will be 40-20% of the job.

OK agreed that for selling CRM sales force is required but once CRM has been sold after that sales requirement is reduced.

Lets not take credit from CRM solution that nowadays it plays major role in any business vertical wherein it helps in decision making but in the end of the day it is your sales force which brings buisness for you. both have their own importance but being a face of the organization sales force's contribution is surely ahead of CRM solution. Lets not forget that CRM works upon data enterd in it but that activity depends unon you sales staff. If the sales force is efficient half the battle won.
