I think as a BDE or sales executive selling new product is a challenge and gives more revenue. In cross selling a product may be available in more brands so convincing the customer is difficult but in a first time product if you convince the customer the product will hit the revenue..... 

Today new products has more demand in the market.....

Cross selling is much easier as client knows you , your product,your company and has got a relation experience. if he is satisfied customer then any product that you will pitch to him will be a success. You do lesser effort in convincing and gets higher revenue as you are also aware with the customer behavior. somebody has very aptly said 80% of your business comes from 20% of your existing customer(satisfied)

Cross seiling is easier than fresh seiling because it is difficult to motivate to customer towards a new brand. but one of the advatage of fresh seiling is that if customer motivated. this is strong loyalty for brand.

so we can say cross selling have some advatage as well as disadvantage.

I believe that cross selling is easier if you had a good experience with the existing customer otherwise it could be disaster because then customer will scold you for the experience he/she had with you. As you know about the word of mouth communication which is also playing a big role in B2B selling so it is necessary to cross sell only those customer who are satisfied with the post sale service part otherwise the revenue which could be come from fresh selling would be blocked. So what i think that you can't make a general statement that cross selling is easier than fresh selling.

i think fresh selling will be good for a new product..if they want to stay in the market..if some one wants to finish the unsold stock..then cross selling will be good idea..but for new product it will be a big NO
