There are some decisions in which knowledge alone would suffice in order to arrive at a correct decision for eg. decisions regarding investment / trading in the stock market. In fact emotions would hamper decision making in such cases. But there are several decisions which require both knowledge as well as emotions, such as decisions in the Human resources arena. Therefore, emotion or knowledge or both in decision making, depens on the context.

When emotions get involved the decision can become partial.

Though it depends on what kind of decision is to be taken. We can never say that involving emotion would be good or bad. It will all depend on the outcome.

A simple corollary. Decision taken to evict sleeping protestors in the wee hours in Delhi was a decision taken without emotions! Many authorities are facing the music in the Apex Court, and they have already faced the outcry from the larger sections of the crowd in the country. Another paradox. Decision to hang Ajmal Kasab should have been taken with knowledge and corroborative evidences alone, minus emotions. Here, in this case, decision making happened with both emotion and knowledge, the case is hanging and the state is paying through its noose for keeping him alive. Therefore, decision making is situation and circumstances-driven. There is no perfect yardstick to follow is my humble opinion. Thanks Diya for referral.

Emotion and Knowledge; both is required to take a right decision. Even in Six thinking hat technique the red hat brings out the emotions part of the discussion to be analysed / addressed / considered.

Actually it should be knowledge plus rational thought since emotions only contribute to clouding your mind. Knowledge plus a rational approach helps in arriving at the right decision. Thanks for the ref Diya.

To my knowledge, "Plan for best and expect the worst" is the definition of spirituality, life and even the project management. Take calculative risks in life, keep your head cool.. Learn from both success and failure.
Hope you would have heard about 'political justice'... :-) But it depends on the reality of the decision.
