Recently there was a awards function for the best Green brand and guess what Dettol came out on top edging Tata indicom and other giants like Wipro, Infosys and the Taj hotels in the race.

But then we are talking here buying green brands, are Indians conscious about going green and buying these products even if they don't like the product just because its process is green and with that it also costs more, as in the case of Electrical appliances we are seeing the entry of 5 star energy products which saves a lot of energy, but it is too costly for a normal consumer, so most of them will go for lesser star rating products to save money.

So how is this going to work out, will consumers opt for "Green brands"?

I Support the concept of Green Branding - however we in India are still in primitive and infancy stage - and much more needs to be done to educate and make people aware of the concepts, need and neccessity.

It is like this - In india we still use - the Yellow bulbs which are being banned worldwide, we do not have energy labelling on electrical appliances, etc,.

Whenever and whereever awareness is created like Organic foods and products they are being priced high making it a pricy product.

We need to create awareness and at the same time ensure that cost it manipulated by few players.

India is still a cost sensitive market. People will buy green products only if they are not more expensive than the others. If the product is costlier people will probably not buy such products. Our green consciousness is subject to cost considerations.

Green Branding concept should be supported and propogated. Once it is propogated automatically demand will increase and more producers will come in and large scale production takes place and rates will come down.

Let us not worry about price. There are so many segments in the market. Above middle class, Upper middle class middle class like that. When concept is good people will invest.

First let us propogate the concept.

I support Mr. Atul's views. In India, we use those things which has already been banned in other countries. This happens because of lack of awareness.Same is the case with Green Branding.Because of lack of awareness, it is in its primitive stage in India.By creating awareness among people we can make it more popular and thus Green Branding will work in India within no time.

Yes i think people will opt for Green brands even if it costs dearer on their wallets, but then India today i think is green conscious than ever before, and are talking about creating awareness in this regard most of the time and people would spend more to make sure that they are atleast helping a cause and doing something for the future.

I agree.

We are still a price sensitive lot!! A lot of our buying is influenced by promtions and deals on daily products!! In fact if one has to look at the amount of discussions that have taken place on this platform, most of us have said that for retail to survive we need to look at costs, promotions and good deals!!

Thanks for the reference Shailena!! :)
