No not in the near future, their is a reason why footballers earn more than cricketers, because club culture is predominant in football rather than country culture, and as we knows this clubs pay hard, compared of what any national board pays in any sport. Christiano ronaldo's earning's from commercial's is around $16 million which is less than what Dhoni earn through commercials, all the difference is due to the club culture they follow, guess if IPL is an yr long affair as EPL,what amount should be the cricketers raking,as weekly earnings in ipl is ever higher in epl,but given the popularity of ipl and the clu vs country clashes starting i can see IPL getting a window with period stretching upto 3 months in the coming yrs,at that time for sure footballers will be getting a competition. As most people say here, money does not have to do anything with the popularity of sports. Kimi raikonan does not even have half the following of beckham yet he is above beck in earning's chart, basketball does not have half the popularity of football yet kobe bryants is earning more than beckham, and how many nation's follow baseball, afaik it is only popular in US and Japan(top 3),yet Alex Rodriguz is in top 10 earners.

No and i hope it never does. Because this much money itself has gone to their heads and the singles and fifties and centuries that dhoni is supposed to be hitting is only matched with the failures of his. Also abroad these footballers train hard and do not work at other jobs, Their full concentration is only on the game - if not for their country, fo the club they play for. Whereas here one century or performance gurantees the place for a cricketer at least for two years if not more. Lack of competitive selection has proven to be the bane for indian cricket.

CRICKET IS PLAYED ONLY BY 12 COUNTRIES OR A SINGLE DIGIT % OF COUNTRIES PLAYING FOOTBALL.YOU HAVE MENTIONED NAMES OF MANY FOOTBALL PLAYERS WHEREAS ONLY 2 NAMES OF CRICKETERS HAVE BEEN MENTIONED.BARRING SACHIN TENDULKAR AND MUTIAH MURALIDHARAN THERE ARE VERY FEW NAMES WHICH HAVE BEEN IN ROUNDS FOR ALONG TIME.THERE ARE NOT MANY CONSISTENT PERFORMERS.IT WILL TAKE A LONG TIME FOR CRICKETERS TO OVERTAKE FOOTBALLERS.

Ayan I think this is country based and our fotballer will never dream of such amount. We are what 133rd in position of football and top of the spot in cricket. The cricketers earnings are increasing since most of our fellow people wath cricket. Suppose in forseable or not forseable future if we play Football World Cup Final you bet a football player will earn more than a cricketer at that point of time.

Ayan, cricket has limited appeal where as footbal has vast appeal. The footbal is synonymous with fast progress and vast following, where as cricket appears like enjoying the fruits of progress and hence limited following,

i don't think , cricketers can get much money as footballers. world's top footballer gets money for only one match, by which he can get the whole IPL team. their annual income is more than BCCI's yearly income. the other reason is, cricket is limited to hardly 12 to 15 countries, while football is followed in most of the countries in the world. so the benefit of brand endorsement can be more beneficial for footballers compared to cricketers specially in the case of multinational brands.
