A capable but lazy employees need to be goaded,they will efficiently execute difficult tasks.

But I agree with you the lazy employee will find the shortest way to execute the tasks.

An equally capable but a comparatively slacker employee can execute a difficult task more efficiently and in less time. A lazy but equally talented person will start working out all the available options and will choose the one which according to him results in max. saving of time and labour. which mostly results in some innovative method of solving the problem. most of the big scientists were dropouts and lazy but equally sharp. Mostly difficult tasks have simple solutions.
