Giving discounts not only invites common man to join a trend but also hypes up the brand and creates an open market and thus creating the much need liquidity in the market.competion increases and people get good quality and affordibility together.To survive this stiff neck competition lots of brands give the people similar offerings and hence creating a choice.

I do not think giving Discounts is a good strategy..in short term it may increase revenues...but in long term it will affect the brand value..customer doubts if the product was worth the price it was paid before the discount was offered..

Discounts is the best strategy for short term gains and also good for making sure that the shelf life of goods/ products do not exceed. Long term discounts is not a very good marketing strategy. But looking at the current markets our customers need some motivation to induce them to buy and I see discounts as the best strategy for the current situation.

Discount is always a good strategy, giving discounts doesn't mean you will incur losses. If discounts can attract more customer than the normal day, then its a better way to clear the stock and increase sales...

I think in case of telecom sector giving sim cards few of cost can be considered as discount which shall increase the customer base and increase revenue in the long run..

I would agree to this because just after seeing the latest example of latest Big Bazaar sale whose stocks were out because of the latest held between 24th-26th jan and this had made profit to the company though they have not revealed the numbers yet.

Well , I too dont agree that giving discount is a good strategy. Because once your start giving discounts, the customers will wait for the next discount season to arrive and till then they will put an hold on the spending. ( They shall only prefer to buy from your store when there is a discount)

I don't find it as a great idea just because somehow while giving a sale a company is compromising with its profit for that particular stock.
