Obviously, remember it is the environment around you that would inspire your to excel at work. Even if your colleagues are drab and irritating, if the office environment is exciting and pleasing, you will still give your best. To the nay sayers, let me ask you whether you as individuals would love to work in govt. offices in india complete with overstacked steel almirah's, pan stained walls, rickety office furniture, dim tubelights, noisy fans which revolve at the speed the earth takes to go aroud the sun etc. ?

Honestly, it is a combination of both the office space and the people/employees. I was surprised at the 'high level of motivation' that I was feeling the moment I walked into an office outside India. The room, the colors used, the curtains, the furniture etc was amazing. I got a similar feeling while I walked into another office, this time in India.I was told that this particular office was built based on vaastu shastra but felt depressing the moment I walked out of that building because it was surrounded by slums...a very strange, cold, bad depressive feeling. Yes, your surroundings(both employees and office) do influence your day to some extent.

in general i would tend to agree. But this also defines on what one means by the converse...an interesting office. Work has its own descipline and deadlines. In an ideal world that should be more than enough motivation to work. However the one type of challenges that no one should live without is the domain challenges that we all must have in our area of work. If what we do everyday does not challenge us atleast once in a while, we would die of boredome.

repetitive work is boring.offices can be boring if non work and there is no job to do.the office supervisor can also make the work boring. However an individual make a work more interesting if one thinks to do so.hence its perception on one to see a work as boring or interesting.

An office is called "boring" when you don't get much in terms of growth (be it of any type) so if that is there then definately one becomes unproductive but otherwise if u work in an office where the work is of interest then def. nothing seems boring.

Seems to be an interesting debate, but no sure what meant by boring office....Is it something surrounded by boring peoples or the nature of work is boring... But whatever self motivation an employee have, if he will surrounded by a boring atmosphere it will affect the productivity in a longer run...that is what i feel... So i am supporting Namrata

The best way to identify this would be to gauge yourself. There's nothing such as a boring office, boring people yes, boring work yes, but only once you've reached the point of stagnation in terms of personal growth and when there is only so much that can be done, then it's time to pick up your bag and leave or stay on and get bored.

Boaring Office Environment is like of Government office, still people ignore all the environment and work to achieve some targets.Keeping office good decorum clean can also improve the productivity.Productivity is some thing that is related to skill set of the good employee and is enforced and is not left at will of the employees.

Offices are comprised of the employees only. If employees are boring-counterproductive, then the office is. The trick is to create an interesting productive atmosphere - maybe an island - in your macro environment.

Not all jobs can be the type that will entertain and getting bored is to do with someone's state of mind. Those who say they do not have boring jobs actually also support this view I think in an unconscious way. THE DEBATE IS FUTILE AS NO ONE IS REALLY INVENTING OR PATENTING OR CREATING NEW THINGS AS A PART OF HIS/HER DAY TO DAY JOB FUNCTION..

A pro-active and self-motivated employee does not require any inducement by way of entertainment, recreation, etc. Its the mindset of an employee, he can turn around any boring environment into a productive environment. Everything is there with him. Thanks Sujatha for initiating this good debate.
