Specifying a fuel efficiency when stripped down to bare engineering interpretation means that for the same amount of fuel, you go a farther distance. So far so good. However, the basic combustion engines work at a pathetic 30% efficiency. This means that we only inch up closer to 33 or maybe 40 % using this as the only indicator.

Additional measures needed should include: Use common transport for short distances in terms of vehicle sharing, optimising the number of car outings to reduce unnecessary trips, emphasis on public transport, etc.

The most effective measure however, sadly points to the need to move away from the traditional internal combustion engines towards efficient alternatives like electric hybrids, and compressed air engines or fuel cell driven vehicles.

our Vehicle manufacturers, Policy makers are not debating on Blending Oxygenates.

we need to do all we can to minimise emissions and India has highest two wheeler population alsmost two thirds of its vehicles are 2 wheelers which emit.

GOI has no guidelines and nor willingness to enforce.

The most basic function of fuel economy standards is that they help the average car burn less gasoline, so emit less C02 into the atmosphere. The net effect is a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, which lowers the net human contribution to global warming.

Fuel economy standards do not decrease fuel consumption because people simply drive more when their cars are more efficient and driving is less expensive. This means that fuel economy standards will not help reduce the amount of oil consumed, nor the amount of oil imported from abroad, so it will not strengthen energy independence.
