Yes looks do matter to a majority of jobs on offer. Generally also we feel better talking to good looking person. Though dumbness will not and should not result in the job going to good looking person. But given the choice than looks do matter. Certainely a dombo is a certain no no.....

If the person is good looking and plain dumb in terms of knowledge that is required...then I don't see the logic here...and it can be vice versa also like good looking people get bad jobs also....as they rely more on their physical attributions or their appearence to work for them than concentrating on the domain knowledge required.

the "good looking people", may have many definations, i think most people are not very clear about good looking and well presented. Only good looking may attract some glances, but eventually the knowledge, skills and attitute win. But in todays success corporate world only knowledge, skill and attitute does not win, we need to have that POWER DRESSING, and good personal presentation also .

It is a very sad truth but "good looking" people do get better jobs, better pay, better opportunities....and better looking children too *joke ;-)

There are studies/articles/debates to support this at:

  1. http://scienceblog.com/cms/who-knew-good-looking-people-get-better-jobs-14974.html
  2. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/life/debate/Do-good-looking-people-get-better-jobs/debateshow/3313650.cms
  3. http://blog.abhinav.com/do-good-lookingsmart-people-get-better-jobs/

In my opinion a good debate would be "Why do good looking people get better jobs?"

PRIMARILY you need to have the capability and the ability. You have to be employable. Then looks come in. Need not be Good-Looking, Beautiful, Handsome. You have to be smartly dressed - not expensively dressed. You have to make the best of whatever features that God had given you.

Not necessarily good look can fetch a good job. But attractive persons can do. There is a difference in good looking and attractive person. Also see the article in Reader's Digest, Jan-11, "What makes you really attractive".

I dont think that is the criteria. Looks have no relation to one's ability to get a job. If at all that is the criteria adopted by any organisation, then it is very sad and not professional.I can understand the need for beauty as a job criteria in certain sectors like Beauty products, airline companies etc.but not in others.

Does not this vary from industry to industry and more relevant to the position?A person however attractive/good can get a job offer but without the required levels of efficiency will not be able to retain the position so got.

Not exactly. The smartness, education, knowledge, perfectness, sincerity and neatness is more required for any good standard Organisation. If he or she is good looking then it is just a bonus. Thanks.

Wow!! If looks could kill. Whom the interviewer? Meaning a gorgeous girl would get preference compared to dusky girl who has all that it takes to fill that position? A handsome guy would get get preference compared to dusky guy who has all that it takes to fill that position? If this happens what r these gorgeous girls & handsome hunks going to do in office walk ramp or increase the revenue? This is funny. I bet looks really don't matter what matter your dressing sense how formally dressed you are meaning u have tie but have chappals/funky shoes for interview these is 110% is not fetch the job for sure. Looks only mater for those companies who encourage office romance & I am sure no company on earth openly does it.

hey if the good looking guys/gals find the job getting process easier than the other then in India with crores of population we would not face the unemployability.as our science is developing and now days many company are trying to come out with products that can change looks completely. being part of such a developing country it's quiet unusual to think all these and if beauty really minds then there is no need of talents.isn't it guys....

One of my professor used to say this. He says that its the beautiful girls who gets better placements than average looking girls. But the recent trend is little different. Its the average looking girls with beautiful minds, they are scoring over others. Similar trend is seen in case of guys also.
