The story line of Movies have really changed from what it use to be in the late 80's and early 90's when the most common theme was to potray a middle class college boy falling for a rich girl & in the end landing up with a good job, to the present form where the lead actor has every thing and suffer from problems like extra marital affairs [ Murder, Raaz to name a few] and such issues.

Not only in bollywood in hollywood too, every major sequel of a blockbuster [National treasure 2, What happens in vegas] are more about making marriages work, which is now a serious issue there.

Not these days but it used to show 10-20 yrs ago. In those days, movies were the mirror of our society. These days, movies are nothing but a bunch of "flop scenes" or copy paste of "other movies". Hardly once or twice we can see some meaningful stories...

I feel the 3-Idiots the first Hindi movie I had seen in the last 30 years is clearly what I used to see before that. It somwhat depicts the general nature of academia prevalent in my student days. Bookworms, thinking heads, bungled projects, mental problems, socialization etc; are depicted with other entetainement which were the true case when I was a student in India.

What probably it didn't suggest is solutions or if solutions were given it was too difficult for someone to correllate the structure of the science involved in changing the situation of the Academia. I feel it was realy entertaining reliving our younger days.

Yes I belive that Movies do reflect the socio-economic condition of its target audience from Mother India where te main concern was to support two square meals of a day reflecting situation at that point in time to the the block buster Sholay depicting the dacoit problem till the present era where the lead actor has every thing and suffers from issues like extra marital affairs, which in earlier time one could not have afford both socially and economically.

In holywood too this trend can be seen where most of the movies [ Rocky series] showed Americans being victorious over the Russians, till the present day which show saving the marriage which is a big concern in US.

I think Movies do reflect the social & economic condition of the society.
